  • Publication number: 20160277921
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting machine-type communications (MTC) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may configure itself to operate in a mobile-originated-only mode. The WTRU may perform no, or a subset of, radio resource control (RRC) idle and/or non-access stratum (NAS) idle/standby state procedures in the mobile-originated-only mode. For example, the WTRU may perform cell reselection but not paging monitoring in the mobile-originated-only mode. Alternatively, the WTRU may perform paging monitoring but not cell reselection and location update. The operation in the mobile-originated-only mode may be triggered explicitly or implicitly. For example, the WTRU may operate in the mobile-originated-only mode if an inactivity timer expires. The WTRU may switch the mode in accordance with a pre-configured schedule. After transition of the operation mode, the WTRU may send a message to the network indicating such mode switch.

  • Publication number: 20160270140
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for providing dual connectivity. The WTRU may receive a reconfiguration message from a source eNode-B that may identify a resource. The WTRU may send a reconfiguration complete message to the source eNode-B that may indicate that the WTRU may be configured to use the resource. The WTRU may maintain a first connection the source eNode-B using a component carrier while establishing a second connection to the target eNode-B using the resource.

  • Publication number: 20160212108
Abstract: Device to device (D2D) communication can be performed with packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) based encapsulation without internet protocol (IP) addressing. The non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can further include two forms of secure data transfer. A first non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can be a negotiated non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication. A second non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can be a non-negotiated non-IP D2D communication. The non-negotiated non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can include a common key management server (KMS) version and a distributed KMS version. The encapsulated communication can be used with various protocols, including a PC5 protocol (such as the PC5 Signaling Protocol) and wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) protocols.

  • Patent number: 9398500
Abstract: Systems and methods for cell selection and/or reselection based on prioritize nodes are disclosed herein. User equipment (UE) may be configured to determine whether to select and/or reselect an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) Node B (eNB). The eNB may be a dedicated eNB and/or may be communicatively coupled to a dedicated core network (CN). The dedicated eNB and/or the dedicated CN may be configured to optimize performance for UEs sharing particular characteristics. Accordingly, the selection and/or reselection criteria may be biased to encourage the UE to select and/or reselect towards a dedicated eNB and/or an eNB coupled to a dedicated CN. The eNB and/or CN may be dedicated to supporting particular types of UEs, types of nodes, types of traffic, types of subscriptions, UE mobilities, applications/services, other predetermined categories, and/or the like.

  • Patent number: 9392531
Abstract: Application-specific Congestion control for Data Communication (ACDC) may be implemented by limiting, on a per-application or per-application category basis, access to certain Access Point Names (APNs). For example, during network radio congestion, a mobile device, before allowing an application to initiate a data communication channel, may determine the APN associated with the application and whether the APN is currently a permitted or prohibited APN. In another implementation, ACDC may be implemented by limiting access to certain bearer connections. In some implementations, a combination of APN barring and bearer barring may be used.

  • Publication number: 20160142961
Abstract: A technology for a user equipment (UE) that is operable to connect to a third generation partnership project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) cell in a cellular network. Logged minimization of drive test (MDT) measurements can be recorded at the UE at a selected rate when the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) idle mode in a first LTE cell in a cellular network. A change in a UE state of the RRC idle mode can be identified. The Logged MDT measurements can stop being recorded at the UE when the UE state changes from a camped normally UE state to another UE state of the RRC idle mode. The Logged MDT measurements can resume being recorded when the UE state changes to the camped normally UE state of the RRC idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20160057797
Abstract: Technology for communicating small data between a user equipment (UE) and an evolved node B (eNB) is described. The UE may communicate with the eNB to establish a small data radio bearer (SDRB), wherein the SDRB is used for communicating the small data from the UE to the eNB. The UE may enter a power saving mode according to a power saving configuration. The UE or the eNB may maintain UE context information for the SDRB while the UE is in the power saving mode. The SDRB may be reestablished using the UE context information when the UE awakes from the power saving mode to enable the UE to communicate the small data on the SDRB to the eNB.
