Patent number: 7941175Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus enables lower priority (e.g., access response) messages to be transmitted instead of higher priority (e.g., paging) messages when the lower priority messages become too backlogged in an environment in which the two types of messages share a given capacity. In other words, when an overload situation is detected, the shared capacity is regulated by ensuring that the lower priority messages have at least some bandwidth. For example, if (i) the lower priority messages reach a predetermined number or (ii) a particular lower priority message has been waiting a predetermined period of time, then at least a portion of the higher priority messages are diverted (e.g., delayed or deleted). In one embodiment, the higher priority messages that are initially diverted are a lowest priority subset of the higher priority messages. In another embodiment, a highest priority subset of the lower priority messages are transmitted first as capacity is made available.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1999Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (PUBL)Inventors: Anders Hoff, Anders Lundström

Patent number: 7872972Abstract: A method of scheduling packet data delivery by a communication network node uses knowledge of the incoming delays and corresponding delay budgets associated with the packet data to be scheduled. For example, a wireless communication network base station may serve a plurality of users via a time-multiplexed packet data channel, and may schedule the delivery of packet data targeted to individual ones of those users based on determining the allowable scheduling delays for the incoming packet data it receives for those users. The allowable scheduling delays for packet data received on a given data connection may be determined based on the incoming delays associated with that packet data and the corresponding end-to-end delay budget defined for that packet data. The incoming delays may be calculated from packet time information, e.g., timestamps, and/or may be estimated based on call type, network type, network distances/locations, network conditions, etc.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2005Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Stig Anders Lundstrom

Patent number: 7616944Abstract: A call handling method and apparatus provide improved call handling in scenarios where concurrent voice and data service is not supported, or is not possible. A wireless communication network can be configured to provide real-time notifications of incoming voice calls to mobile stations that are busy in data calls, and can route those incoming voice call to voice mail, etc. The network can be configured to attempt call delivery of an incoming voice call to a mobile station busy in a data call with or without prompting the mobile station user, depending on the type of data service the mobile station is engaged in. According to exemplary embodiments, the traffic channel and other resources as desired are retained from the data call for use in supporting the voice call. Also, the mobile stations can be configured to support such notification, reconfiguration and channel retention processing.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2003Date of Patent: November 10, 2009Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Roger Gustavsson, Vibhor Julka, Anders Lundstrom

Patent number: 7289480Abstract: A wireless communication network manages communication resources based on the types of packet data being carried by the network for each mobile station. Packet data for each use is matched to packet matching filters in defined flow type profiles. Each flow type profile corresponds to an expected application behavior and includes one or more resource control parameters having values set with regard to that expected behavior. An application activity profile is generated for each mobile station based on deriving resource control parameters using parameter values corresponding to the active flows for each mobile station. The network determines each mobile station's active flows based on matching that mobile station's packet data types to one or more of the defined flow type profiles. Thus, the network manages communication resources individually and/or jointly for its users based on the type of packet data traffic passing through the network for each of those users.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2002Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anders Lundstrom, Henrik Basilier

Publication number: 20060135175Abstract: A method and an apparatus for updating the location of a plurality of mobile stations (107) in a moving craft or vehicle (105). Each time a new mobile station (107) is attached to a common terminal (103) located in the moving craft or vehicle, an initial location updating message is transmitted to a satellite system (101). Information based on the initial location updating message is then stored in the satellite system (101). When the common terminal (103) enters a new location area, a location updating message is transmitted including an identity of the common terminal (103). The satellite system (101) can then derive the new location for each of the attached mobile stations (107) based on the transmitted location updating message and the stored information on the mobile stations (107) currently being attached to the common terminal (103).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2001Publication date: June 22, 2006Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anders Lundstrom, Boo Shin, Bertil Nilsson

Patent number: 6666338Abstract: A device for the separation of solid objects (9) from fluid flowing in a conduit tube (2) includes a housing that includes a tubular outer wall (3) and a tubular inner wall (4). Between these is delimited a collecting space (8). Concentrically relative to the inner wall (4) is provided a rotation-symmetrical central body (12) which at opposing ends cooperates with flow converting devices (15, 16), which transform incoming flow to a rotative motion and outgoing flow to an axial motion. In the inner wall (4) are recessed tangentially separated holes (20) of elongated shape, through which the scrap objects may pass and be collected in a collecting space (8). In the collecting space (8) a calm flow operation is obtained which guarantees that collected scrap objects are not carried away and returned to the main fluid flow through the separation device.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: December 23, 2003Assignee: Vattenfall ABInventors: Mats Henriksson, Anders Lundström, Rolf Karlsson, Tapio Kaipanen, Johan Westin

Patent number: 6665522Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and arrangement in a radio communication system for performing a message transfer transaction in which at least one message is transferred in at least one frame from a first unit to a second unit. Properties of radio signals exchanged between the first unit and the second unit are measured (501). A mode of informing the first unit of frame receipt status at the second unit during the message transfer transaction is selected (502) based on the measured radio signal properties. The at least one frame is transferred (503) from the first unit to the second unit while the first unit is informed of the frame receipt status at the second unit in accordance with the selected mode of informing.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1999Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anders Lundström, Scott Hicks

Patent number: 6597680Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for quickly deallocating packet traffic channels. According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the capability of performing point-to-multipoint communications is provided on the PTCH by defining a multicast address that all mobiles read. Through the use of a multicast address, a plurality of mobile stations can simultaneously be notified of the termination of PTCH services. As a result, the network can reallocate PTCH resources in a minimum amount of time.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1998Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Jan Lindskog, Gunnar Rydnell, Anders Lundström, Anders Hoff
