  • Publication number: 20080055924
Abstract: An illumination system for producing light and for launching the light into a proximal end of an optical cable of an observation apparatus for endoscopy or microscopy has a light source having at least one LED. In addition, the illumination system has an optical light guiding element between the light source and the proximal end of the optical cable for introducing the light emitted by the light source into the proximal end of the optical cable, wherein a first end region of the optical light guiding element on a side facing the light source has a smaller cross-sectional area than a second end region of the optical light guiding element on a side facing the proximal end of the optical cable. Furthermore, the illumination system has a cooling apparatus which has at least one cooling body and which is thermally conductively connected to the light source in order to remove heat produced by the light source from the illumination system.

  • Publication number: 20070053204
Abstract: The invention relates to a confocal microendoscope, in which the diameter of optical fibres at the proximal end (8) of an optical fibre bundle (9) is greater than at the distal end (15). This permits the efficiency of coupling the light of a light source to be increased, without reducing the resolution of the microendoscope. In addition, the proximal ends (8) of the optical fibres (10) are arranged in a grid, for example, by means of a fibre receiving unit (11) that holds the individual optical fibres. A microlens unit (13) can also be provided, said unit allocating a microlens (14) to each optical fibre end.

  • Patent number: 6494826
Abstract: A coupling provides mechanical, light-guiding, and image-guiding connection of an endoscope to a camera module. It is proposed that a first cylindrical stem, in whose interior a proximal end segment of the light guiding system is received, project in the coupling direction from a coupling end of the endoscope. Also projecting from the coupling end in the coupling direction is a second approximately cylindrical stem whose length and diameter are greater than the length and diameter of the first stem, a proximal end segment of the image guiding system being received in the interior of the second stem. The second stem coacts with an interlock arranged on the camera module, for mechanical interlocking of the coupling. The first and second stems extend at a distance next to one another, and the coupling end of the camera module has receptacles, complementary to the two stems, into which the two stems penetrate.
