  • Publication number: 20220346152
Abstract: Optimizing early data transmission (EDT) between user equipments and a network node. In one aspect, there is a method for improving EDT. The method includes transmitting first transport block size (TBS) information indicating a first set of one or more EDT TBSs, the first set of EDT TBSs comprising a maximum EDT TBS. The method further includes after transmitting the first TBS information, obtaining EDT usage information and based on the obtained EDT usage information, determining whether to transmit the first TBS information or second TBS information indicating a second set of one or more EDT TBSs, wherein the first set and the second set of EDT TBSs are different. The method further includes transmitting the first TBS information or the second TBS information based on the determination.

  • Patent number: 11477812
Abstract: A user equipment is configured for use in a wireless communication system. The user equipment in particular is configured to receive from a base station one or more configuration messages that indicate a pattern of downlink transmission gaps in time. The user equipment is further configured to receive from the base station a scheduled downlink transmission that comprises a downlink data block and one or more repetitions of the downlink data block. The scheduled downlink transmission is received with downlink transmission gaps therein according to the indicated pattern. Alternatively or additionally, the user equipment is configured to transmit a scheduled uplink transmission that comprises an uplink data block and one or more repetitions of the uplink data block. In this case, the scheduled uplink transmission is transmitted with uplink transmission gaps therein according to an uplink transmission gap pattern that specifies a pattern of uplink transmission gaps in time.

  • Publication number: 20220322264
Abstract: A wireless communication device (12) conditions its use of Preconfigured Uplink Resources (PUR), as preconfigured by a wireless communication network (16), on assessing the validity of a Timing Advance (TA) value used by the device (12) for controlling its uplink transmission timing The device (12) maintains a timer (37) and deems the TA value to be invalid upon expiration of the timer (37). In an example case, a device (12) operating in idle mode performs a PUR-based transmission in dependence on the timer (37) not being expired. A radio network node (10) of the network (16) maintains a like timer (57), to maintain an awareness of TA validity at the device (12) and, for example, sends an updated TA for the device (12) upon receiving a PUR-based transmission from the device (12). The device (12) and the node (10) may refresh their respective timers, in association with the TA update.

  • Publication number: 20220303894
Abstract: Embodiments include methods, for a user equipment (UE), to monitor for wake-up signals (WUS)transmitted by a network node in a radio access network (RAN). The methods include determining a second WUS resource for use during a first monitoring occasion associated with a WUS group assigned to the UE, based on the following: an identifier of a first WUS resource, wherein the first and second WUS resources are part of a first number of configured WUS resources for transmission of WUS; the first number of configured WUS resources; and a system frame number (SFN) or hyper-SFN (HSFN) associated with the RAN. The methods also include monitoring for a WUS, from the network node, in the second WUS resource during the first monitoring occasion. Embodiments also include complementary methods for a network node, and UEs and network nodes configured to perform such methods.

  • Publication number: 20220304070
Abstract: A base station transmits a resource grant indicating a plurality of options from which a wireless device is permitted to select for use in transmitting user data on an uplink during random access. Each respective option comprises a transport block size (TBS) and a number of repetitions. One of the TBSs is a maximum permitted TBS and the other TBSs are derived from the maximum permitted TBS using a predefined set of smaller TBS values. The number of repetitions of each option is determined as a function of the maximum permitted TBS and a corresponding number of repetitions. The wireless device receives the resource grant and transmits the user data on the uplink during random access to the base station according to at least one of the options. The base station receives the user data on the uplink during random access correspondingly.

  • Patent number: 11357055
Abstract: Random Access (RA) formats are defined for NB-IoT operation in TDD mode. The formats are defined to allow use of the legacy LTE subframe configurations for TDD. The formats specify a predetermined, even number P of symbol groups composing a RA preamble, wherein each symbol group comprises a Cyclic Prefix (CP) and a number X of symbols. The P symbol groups are divided into symbol group sets fitting into 1, or 2, or 3 contiguous uplink subframes, each comprising at least two symbol groups transmitted back-to-back (i.e., contiguously in time), and at least two symbol group sets are transmitted non-contiguously in time across a number of uplink subframes over which the RA preamble is transmitted. The number of symbol groups in a set can be two or three, and the number of symbol groups is four or six, respectively. Symbol groups within a set are transmitted on adjacent uplink subframes. Five format options are defined, which map to various of the LTE TDD configurations.

  • Patent number: 11356955
Abstract: There is provided a method in a wireless terminal device for a wireless communications network. The wireless terminal device is operable in a mode in which the wireless terminal device is configurable to wake at defined instances to monitor a control channel for control messages from the wireless communications network. The control messages indicate radio resources for a shared channel over which one or more further messages are to be transmitted. The method comprises, while operating in the mode, monitoring for receipt of an indication from a network node operable in the wireless communications network in a time window associated with a particular defined instance. The indication indicates that data is available at the wireless communications network for transmission to the wireless terminal device.
