  • Publication number: 20090112778
Abstract: The invention includes a method and apparatus for configuring a self-learning network using feedback information received from an end user terminal communicating via the self-learning network. A method includes receiving feedback information from the end user terminal, generating configuration information for at least one network element of the self-learning network using the received feedback information, and configuring the at least one network element using the generated configuration information. The at least one network element of the self-learning network is configured by executing commands on each of the at least one network element and/or by propagating configuration information to each of the at least one network element. The feedback information may include user and/or terminal feedback information.

  • Patent number: 7526564
Abstract: A new architecture and operational techniques for supporting high quality live and on-demand streaming multimedia on a data network. By using Helper machines inside the network as data forwarding, caching, and buffering agents, and by forming meshes among Helper machines, advantages of homogeneous, synchronous multicast transmission and of heterogeneous, asynchronous reception are achieved. The architecture provides essentially transparently support to the receivers for near-zero start-up latency, improved playback quality, improved CR-like operations. These are achieved while reducing network and server load compared to today's multimedia networking techniques.

  • Publication number: 20090089399
Abstract: The present invention supports services that span multiple service domains. In one embodiment, the present invention provides service-level interaction between an enterprise network and a non-enterprise network (or networks), thereby enabling enterprise users at remote locations (i.e., at home, on vacation, or at other locations remote from the enterprise location) to use services typically only available to the enterprise users while at the enterprise location (e.g., while in the office). The present invention provides a calendar notification service, whereby a calendar notification originating in an enterprise network is provided to a remote enterprise user via a non-enterprise network. The present invention provides an enterprise dialing plan service, whereby a remote enterprise user may register a remote user device to be able to use an enterprise dialing plan.

  • Patent number: 7436820
Abstract: When an intelligent VoIP endpoint terminal on a VoIP network becomes inoperative for any reason and can't respond to a service request that it had been programmed for, rather than leaving that service request unfulfilled, a VoIP network-hosted instance of that primarily endpoint terminal-provided service is invoked to handle that request and provide the service that would have otherwise been provided by the endpoint terminal. The network-hosted instance thus executes the requested service on behalf of the unavailable endpoint terminal.

  • Publication number: 20070016329
Abstract: Systems for controlling the motion of multiple articulated elements connected by one or more joints in an artificial appendage system. Four different embodiments are disclosed and include a controller that reduces the dimension of joint state space by utilizing biomechanically inspired motion primitives; a quadratic proportional-derivative (PD) controller which employs a two-stage linearization method, applies constraints to variables for dynamic stability, and employs a corrective “sliding control” mechanism to account for errors in the linear model used; a non-prioritized balance control approach that employs enforced linear dynamics in which all control variables are truncated to linear terms in joint jerks; and a biomimetic motion and balance controller based on center of mass (CM) energetic and biomimetic zero moment conditions.

  • Publication number: 20060173724
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for service-level based and/or skills-based assignment of a work item to one (or more) of a plurality of resources based on fitness, for example, of skills required by the former to those provided by the latter. Assignment takes into account the level of stress on the work item and/or resources, such that the number of resources fit for assignment varies as the level of stress varies. Systems according to the invention can be used, by way of example, to route a call or other request made by a customer to a service center. The requirements for processing the call (determined, for example, by an incoming call operator) are matched against the skill sets of available customer service agents, taking call and/or resource stress levels into account. For example, some implementations may match an incoming call having a low stress factor (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20060041861
Abstract: A method of automated workflow processing includes transforming an object, A1, which is of class X, into an object which is of class Y. The method includes the steps of separating existing data elements of A1 from the object itself, generating new data elements corresponding to class Y, inserting the new data elements into object A1, and computing values for the new data elements, possibly based on values of the old data elements. Other objects that referred to A1 before the transformation continue to do so afterwards. Values of data elements prior to transformation can be preserved, e.g., to facilitate review, to facilitate further transformation, and/or to facilitate back transformation.

  • Patent number: 6847811
Abstract: A circuit configuration having a filter, for example a bandpass filter, and a method for its operation are specified, which the circuit configuration allows for compensation of a frequency error, for example between an actual mid-frequency and a nominal frequency. A first mixer, upstream of the filter and a second mixer downstream from the filter are provided. A signal and a respective oscillation frequency are each supplied to respective inputs of the first and second mixers. The oscillation frequencies are mixed as a function of the frequency error in frequency generators such that the signal at the intermediate frequency is matched to the filter characteristics of the filter which is subject to tolerances. In consequence, filters that satisfy the stringent requirements for WCDMA mobile radio applications, but by virtue of the manufacturing technique, have an excessive mid-frequency error, can be used, for example, in heterodyne receivers.

  • Patent number: 6801317
Abstract: The invention relates to a plasmon resonance sensor that comprises collimator optics (13) in the form of a cylindrical lens that is interposed between the laser diode (7) and the prism (1), said prism being provided with a reflective metal layer (5). This arrangement preserves the beam divergence in the plane of incidence that comprises all angles of incidence that are potentially possible for a resonance and that are detected by the detector (8). In a plane perpendicular to the plane of incidence the beam path is collimated, thereby allowing for a compact design and for the simultaneous arrangement of a plurality of measuring cells that are arranged perpendicular to the plane of incidence one behind the other.

  • Publication number: 20040157149
Abstract: The invention relates to an object, such as a sensor or a microcavity with an uncharged, functionalized hydrogel surface, comprising a hydrogel, which has hydroxy groups to which organic molecules are bound. The molecules used have one or more radicals &Lgr; and one or more radicals B. Radical &Lgr; reacts with the hydroxy groups of the hydrogel when binding the organic molecule. Radical B is selected such that, after the organic molecule binds to the hydrogel, it reacts with a biomolecule having amino groups or thio groups without the use of one or more activation reagents. The invention also relates to a method for producing the inventive object and to novel organic molecules for binding biomolecules to a hydrogel.

  • Publication number: 20040122951
Abstract: A click-to-contact service automatically and uniformly converts all types of contact information embedded in any Web page into click-to-contact links. This user-oriented service is realized with a click-to-contact agent, which takes any Web page as an input and adds click-to-contact links to the contact information located within that Web page. This agent can be invoked from the Web browser running on an end-user's client system or from within the network. This click-to-contact agent performs the tasks of searching an incoming Web page for contact information by applying a grammar for such contacts. When contact information is found, the Web page is modified to include a link in association with that contact information within the Web page. When the end-user subsequently clicks on or otherwise selects such a click-to-contact link, one or two-way telephonic or electronic communication is established between the end-user and an address associated with the contact information within the Web page.

  • Patent number: 6384789
Abstract: A testing apparatus for testing mobile telephones includes an antenna coupler, a holder and a testing device. The antenna coupler includes a printed circuit board upon one side of which is formed a slot antenna operative in a first frequency range and a dipole antenna operative in a second frequency range. The holder secures a mobile telephone under test in proximity to the antenna coupler. A coupler formed on a second side of the printed circuit board selectively supplies signals received by one of the antenna elements to the testing device. The testing device measures transmission and reception characteristics of the mobile telephone under test, including transmission phase error, frequency error, power and spectrum, and bit error rate.
