  • Patent number: 7050833
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling the beam formation of downlink signals, which are emitted in a mobile radio communications system by base stations of a first and a second radio cell to a mobile station, whereby the base stations are configured to emit a weighted downlink signal to the mobile station, using a weighting vector. The method includes the steps of determination of a weighting vector record in the mobile station and the base stations of the first and second radio cell; selection of an optimal weighting vector in the mobile station and transmission of a code word that is assigned to the optimal weighting vector to the base stations; and weighted emission of the downlink signal to each base station using the weighted vector that has been assigned to the code word. In the base stations, the weighting vectors are assigned to the code words in various ways, so that upon receipt of an identical code word, the base stations weight the downlink signal using different weighting vectors.

  • Patent number: 7039409
Abstract: A method and system are provided for monitoring adjacent cells in a mobile radio telephone system, in which a mobile station located in a cell of a mobile radio telephone system receives, for purposes of monitoring adjacent cells, transmits signals coded with different cell-specific codes from base stations of adjacent cells and codes and evaluates these in accordance with the respective cell-specific codes, wherein at least the base station currently responsible for the mobile station transmits a signaling information item which informs the mobile station of the codes to be used in the monitoring of adjacent cells and/or of the codes not to be used in monitoring adjacent cells, and the mobile station, in monitoring adjacent cells, only decodes and evaluates the transmit signals of the adjacent cells coded with a code which can be used for the monitoring of adjacent cells in accordance with the signaling information.

  • Publication number: 20040233872
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the transmission of a global pilot signal from a base station of a radio communication system to a user station and a base station suitable for carrying out the above method. The base station comprises a number of antennae each with a characteristic pilot bit sequence. The global pilot signal is generated by overlaying the pilot bit sequences emitted from the several antennae of the base station, whereby the following method steps are carried out: a) division of the several antennae into a first group and a second group each with at least one antenna, b) transmission of the pilot bit sequences of the antennae of just the first group and c) modification of the compositions of the first and second group and return to step b).

  • Publication number: 20040171357
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to estimate a dedicated channel of the downlink transmission from a base station (BS) to a subscriber station (MS) in a mobile radio communications system with antenna diversity. To this end, the subscriber station (MS) calculates a first estimation of the dedicated channel from an estimation of a global channel (CPICH) while using a weighting vector (W, W′) used by the base station (BS) for the beam forming of the dedicated channel.

  • Publication number: 20040152491
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling the beam formation of downlink signals, which are emitted in a mobile radio communications system by base stations (BS1, BS2) of a first and a second radio cell (C1, C2) to a mobile station (MS), whereby the base stations are configured to emit a weighted downlink signal to the mobile station (MS), using a weighting vector. The method comprises the following steps: determination of a weighting-vector record in the mobile station (MS) and the base stations (BS1, BS2) of the first and second radio cell (C1, C2); selection of an optimal weighting vector in the mobile station (MS) and transmission of a code word that is assigned to the optimal weighting vector to the base stations (BS1, BS2); weighted emission of the downlink signal to each base station (BS1, BS2), using the weighting vector that has been assigned to the code word.

  • Publication number: 20040014503
Abstract: A method is provided for beam shaping in a radio communication system having subscriber stations and a base station, and an antenna device with a number of antenna elements that emit a downlink signal weighted with a coefficient of an actual weighting vector to a subscriber station, the actual weighting vector being updated via feedback information from the subscriber station. The subscriber station estimates the direction of a control vector in an M-dimensional vector space using measurements of the downlink signals, it detects a deviation of the estimated direction from the direction of a reference control vector and transmits information representative of the deviation to the base station. The base station then adapts the weighting vector using the representative information.

  • Publication number: 20030014715
Abstract: A transmitting device in a mobile communication system is disclosed. In the transmitting device, an encoder receives an information bit stream in a frame, which is as long as an integer multiple of a predetermined value, and generates an information symbol, a first panty symbol, and a second parity symbol by encoding each information bit. An interleaver sequentially arranges the information symbols and the first and second parity symbols by rows in an array with an integer number of rows and an integer number of columns. The interleaver reorders the columns in the array according to a predetermined rule. The interleaver further outputs a plurality of radio frames in a stream, by reading the symbols by going down each column, starting at the leftmost column and proceeding right. Each radio frame has a predetermined size.
