  • Publication number: 20150121994
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting particles in a fluid stream, comprising: generating a measurement field that can be passed through by the fluid stream; acquiring and evaluating measurement values of the fluid stream passing through the measurement field, and detecting at least one particle by way of a distinctive sequence of measurement values. The invention is characterized in that each of the distinctive successions of measurement values is acquired and evaluated in order to determine if a particle or a gas bubble is passing through the measurement field.

  • Patent number: 8639869
Abstract: A portable control unit may be quickly coupled and decoupled from docking stations on a plurality of process system components, such as cylindrical grinding machines. The portable control unit may be used to control the process system component and receive and output data produced by the process system component. The ability to quickly couple and decouple the portable control unit may allow a single portable control unit to be used to control numerous process system components, thereby saving cost and space. Various communications interfaces and attachment mechanisms may be used to communicatively and mechanically couple the portable control unit to a docking station.

  • Patent number: 8443921
Abstract: A method of increasing operating efficiency of a powertrain includes unrestricting a grille opening by fully opening a shutter at or below a first predetermined vehicle speed, and turning a fan off. The method also includes unrestricting the grille opening by fully opening the shutter above the first predetermined vehicle speed and at or below a second predetermined vehicle speed under a high powertrain cooling load, and turning the fan on. The method additionally includes partially restricting the grille opening above the second predetermined vehicle speed via an intermediate position of the shutter, and turning the fan off. A specific size of the fan together with the selected positions for the shutter at the respective vehicle speeds provides sufficient airflow through the grille opening to cool the powertrain, and provides increased powertrain operating efficiency. A system for increasing operating efficiency of a powertrain and a vehicle are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130081888
Abstract: A method of establishing a baseline airflow opening into an under-hood compartment of a vehicle configured to house a powertrain includes providing a fascia for the under-hood compartment. The fascia includes a first grille opening and a second grille opening configured to admit first and second portions of ambient airflow, respectively, into the under-hood compartment. A selectable position shutter assembly is disposed in the second grille opening and configured to control a size of the second grille opening. The baseline airflow opening into the under-hood compartment is the sum of the size of the first grille opening and the minimum size of the second grille opening. The method also includes ascertaining a configuration of the powertrain and setting the minimum size of the second grille opening in response to the ascertained configuration of the powertrain to establish the baseline airflow opening. A system employing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7131245
Abstract: An over-center self adjusting cap chuck adapted for operative attachment to a high-speed capping machine includes a housing having an outer peripheral surface defining an inner annular periphery with an interior face. A plurality of independent engagement jaws are aligned along an annular area of, or within a pocket area of, the interior face. Each engagement jaw has a fastener to connect the engagement jaw to the housing and establish a pivot point to support a limited axial rotational movement thereof to a first open axial position and a second closed axial position for receiving and gripping a work piece respectively. Either a singular bias spring or a pair of bias springs pre-dispose the engagement jaws to the first open axial position.

  • Patent number: 5825115
Abstract: An electric motor has two exciter windings, independent of each other, on a stator, by which windings a resultant magnetic field can be produced. The motor includes a permanently magnetized rotor which has at least one pair of poles, the rotor changing its position as a function of the magnetic field, and the rotor being arranged axially on a rotor shaft. In the case of an electric motor which is of a small size and easy to manufacture, the stator is developed with several arms, and has an opening present at the center to receive the rotor. The individual arms are arranged around the opening and, there are, two pairs of opposite arms. The opposite arms are so bent towards each other so that, upon their receiving a respective exciter winding, they produce magnetic vectors which are perpendicular to each other.
