Patent number: 10173782Abstract: A latch with a unique nesting toggle linkage that extends and retracts a hook via movement of an actuation handle. The linkage links have U-shaped lateral cross sections with a central channel into which the respective links nest when the latch is closed to minimize the overall volume of the latch. The links fold toward each other while closing to reduce the latch's overall length when fully closed. The components of the latch are arranged so that the center of gravity of the latch is positioned in front of a mounting pin; therefore, in applications where the latch swings in the vertical plane, the hook will necessarily hang downwardly away from the keeper when the latch is open. Optionally, a keeper detector prevents the actuation handle from closing if the keeper has not been first captured in the mouth of the hook. A rod-and-cylinder slide mechanism may be employed between the hook body and the mounting pin.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2015Date of Patent: January 8, 2019Assignee: QRP, Inc.Inventor: Andres Hernandez

Publication number: 20170226781Abstract: A bin latch system. A bin latch mechanism that has been designed with weight, number of components, simplicity of operation and installation as main design drivers. The bin latch utilizes spring loaded rods that are ‘pulled’ to release the locking subassemblies. The rods lock two sets of interlocking housings in place. Due to the nature of the rod actuator, the design is binary in nature and needs both sets of interlocking housings to be secured before the interface handle can go to ‘full close’ position. Additionally, there is no rigging necessary at install. Once the assembly is in secured in place, it is ready to be operated.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2017Publication date: August 10, 2017Applicant: Centrix Aero, LLCInventor: Andres Hernandez

Publication number: 20170101811Abstract: A latch for releasably connecting two elements is operable between engaged and released positions. An elongate handle opens and closes a latch mechanism about a first axis of rotation at the rear end of the handle. The latch handle is held closed only when the latch mechanism is in the engaged position and is lockable in the closed position by a manually operable handle catch. The front end of a handle cover is rotatably connected to the front end of the handle. The cover has a cover catch on the rear end, which is engagable with the latch mechanism to hold the cover closed. The cover is substantially coextensive with and in abutment with the handle. When the latch is mounted overhead and is open, the handle extends downward by the force of gravity and the cover extends downward away from the handle. In this configuration, the open latch is highly visible.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2016Publication date: April 13, 2017Inventors: Michael J. Parsell, JR., Andres Hernandez

Publication number: 20160060916Abstract: A “pop-out” latch includes trigger-actuated spring means for extending a latch handle out of a surrounding panel recess for ease of grasping. The handle is connected to an inner sleeve which is keyed to a concentric outer sleeve such that the sleeves turn together between open and closed positions while the inner sleeve can slide axially within the outer sleeve between extended and retracted positions. At least one control pin extends inwardly from the latch body through slots in both sleeves. By the location of the slots the rotation of the handle is only permitted when the inner sleeve is in the extended position. When closing the latch, movement of the handle and inner sleeve axially toward the retracted stowed position of the handle is only permitted when the handle is in alignment with the receiving panel recess.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2015Publication date: March 3, 2016Inventor: Andres Hernandez

Publication number: 20150232189Abstract: A blowout latch includes a rotatable bolt that secures a first panel that is adjacent to a second panel to which the latch is affixed. The bolt is restrained by a toggle linkage that operates at one end of the bolt against a pressure-actuated spring. The linkage will release the bolt when an excessive opening force against the bolt exceeds a selected restraining force of the spring. When that condition occurs, the linkage will have deflected the spring and moved to a position where the end of the linkage bearing against spring loses it mechanical leverage with respect to the bolt. Thereafter, the bolt is free to continue rotation to a fully open position. The latch also includes a manual trigger release that disables the restraining linkage and permits free rotation of the bolt to the fully open position when this trigger is actuated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2015Publication date: August 20, 2015Inventor: Andres Hernandez
