  • Publication number: 20050167772
Abstract: A gate for quantum computing is disclosed based on the use of electronic excitation to control the interaction between the components of the computer in which quantum information is encoded. A means to select which components of the computing system are to interact, and hence to enable quantum information to be passed systematically around an array of gates constituting a quantum computer is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050120666
Abstract: A concrete anchor float that, in one embodiment, facilitates the placement of anchor bolts that protrude from concrete constructions, such as foundations. The concrete anchor float of the present invention can be used with nearly any conventional anchor bolt to insure the correct placement and alignment of the anchor bolt and to promote a strong bond between the anchor bolt and the concrete. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the concrete anchor float generally comprises a base plate with a hole, and a cap extending from the base plate over the hole. The cap includes a cavity configured to releasably secure the anchor bolt, and a top against which the anchor bolt rests upon insertion. According to an implementation of the present invention, the base plate includes features that minimize voids and air pockets between the anchor bolt and the concrete to promote a strong bond.

  • Patent number: 6631314
Abstract: A propellant utilization system for a space vehicle having at least a first thrust source and a second thrust source. The propellant utilization system utilizes a common set of algorithms to generate mixture ratios for each thrust source as each thrust source becomes active. The propellant utilization system includes a processing system comprising sequencer logic, propellant logic, and mixture ratio logic. The sequencer logic determines when a thrust source is active, e.g. one of the first and second thrust sources, and provides flight parameters for the active thrust source to the propellant logic and the mixture ratio logic. The propellant logic processes information from propellant sources connected to the active thrust source, using the flight parameters for that thrust source, to determine an amount of remaining propellant in each source.

  • Publication number: 20030135587
Abstract: Many computer networks including the Internet and World Wide Web applications, use “stateless” protocols in that each request for information is independent of any other requests. However, many applications require state to be managed in some way, for example, a server remembering that a client submitted an acceptable password earlier in a session. The present means of managing state such as using cookies or complex URLs with embedded state, add load to the system resources. The invention lies in maintaining (26) the state on the client side, between a local browser and micro server, and only uploading (28) processed data to the remote server when required.

  • Patent number: 5783731
Abstract: A process to reduce carbonyl impurities in a carbonylation reaction for the production of acetic acid is described. The methyl iodide recycle stream which is directed to a carbonylation reactor for carbonylating methanol or methyl acetate to acetic acid, is treated to remove carbonyl impurities by reacting the methyl iodide stream formed in the reaction with an aqueous amino compound which reacts with the carbonyls to form water soluble nitrogenous derivatives, separating an organic methyl iodide phase from an aqueous derivative phase and distilling the methyl iodide phase to remove heavier impurities. The treatment of the methyl iodide recycle stream to the carbonylation reactor has been found to greatly reduce the carbonyls present in the acetic acid product. The formation of nitrile from the nitrogenous derivative during distillation may be minimized by adding water to the system.

  • Patent number: 5697753
Abstract: A box stacker uniquely able to semiautomatically load, in place, inside a variety of enclosures, columns of stackable boxes, said box stacker being in the form of a movable structure that has a conveyor belt carrying structure attached thereto in a cantilevered fashion. The conveyor belt carrying structure has an inner end and an outer end and carries spaced boxes thereon to be stacked. A speed-up belt carrying structure has an inner end attached to the outer end of the conveyor belt carrying structure and receives boxes from the conveyor belt. A lift device automatically raises the conveyor belt carrying structure in predetermined increments to successively deposit boxes on a column or stack and a drive arrangement is coupled to the speed-up belt for driving the speed-up belt at a greater speed than the conveyor belt to eject the boxes from the speed-up belt onto the column or stack.

  • Patent number: 5490587
Abstract: A gravity accumulation conveyor apparatus for transporting objects from an upstream end to a downstream end under the influence of gravity as the objects traverse a plurality of rollers, the apparatus having at least one roller zone including a plurality of nondriven rollers having an upstream roller and a spaced downstream roller. A flexible connector such as an O-ring is in mechanical engagement with only the upstream roller and the spaced downstream roller such that only the upstream roller and the downstream roller move in synchronism. When a first object is stopped on the downstream roller, a second object engaging the upstream roller also tends to be stopped. When the first object moves on the downstream roller, the second object engaging the upstream roller is caused to move.

  • Patent number: 3957502
Abstract: A magnesium additive for ferrous melts comprises a structure of particulate magnesium and a material which forms a coherent, stable metal permeable matrix when subjected to the temperature of a ferrous melt. The additive may comprise magnesium granules enveloped with such a material, which may be carbon or calcium fluoride. The additive may also comprise a homogeneous mixture of magnesium with a refractory material, or may comprise magnesium surrounded by carbonaceous material capable of forming a skeletal carbon structure. The carbonaceous material may comprise an organic binder and may be mixed with other materials, such as carbon and calcium fluoride.
