  • Patent number: 5834526
Abstract: Microspheres are described which have a shell of thermally expandable polymer and a hollow interior that contains a fluorinated hydrocarbon that boils at a temperature below the melting point of the polymer, and contains an organic ester or ether or ketone. The ester or ether or ketone improves the quality of microsphere product. The expandable particles are useful in insulation, packaging, for expanding other polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene, and the like.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 11, 1997
Date of Patent: November 10, 1998
Inventors: Huey S. Wu, Fuming Sun, Victoria L. Dimonie, Andrew Klein
  • Patent number: 4448932
Abstract: This invention relates to a polyvinyl chloride resin composition containing said resin and a significant amount of a polymer of butadiene in the form of a shell-core polymer wherein a polymer of methylmethacrylate forms said shell and completely encapsulates the core containing the butadiene polymer.

Inventors: Eugene S. Barabas, Andrew Klein, Dru W. Alwani
  • Patent number: 4169924
Abstract: Linear cyclic polyimides are prepared by reacting a latex prepolymer with ammonia, an organic primary amine, hydroxylamine or a mixture thereof, at a temperature between 50.degree. C. and 300.degree. C. The prepolymer contains reactive functional groups, such as carboxyl, amide, alkyl ester and nitrile. The linear cyclic polyimides are thermoplastic materials.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 9, 1977
Date of Patent: October 2, 1979
    Assignee: GAF Corporation
Inventors: Eugene S. Barabas, Andrew Klein
  • Patent number: 4138380
Abstract: Copolymer emulsions comprising (1) an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid and (2) methyl acrylate are useful as thickening agents, particularly in acrylic polymer latices. An especially effective thickening agent is obtained when the copolymer emulsion is prepared using the dioctyl ester of sulfosuccinic acid as a surfactant.
