  • Publication number: 20130208006
Abstract: A book for use in an augmented reality system includes first and second pages. The first page is on a first leaf of the book and includes a first fiduciary marker for indicating the orientation of the book to a recognition system. The second page is on a second leaf of the book and includes a second fiduciary marker for indicating the orientation of the book to the recognition system and also page marker for indicating the page number of the second page to the recognition system. The page marker orientation is ambiguous without reference to a fiduciary marker.

  • Patent number: 8292342
Abstract: A plate carrier is carried on a server's forearm. The carrier comprises a wireform having a horizontal support portion for carrying the plate carrier on the forearm, a vertical loop portion looping around a server's forearm, and a plate holder portion below the server's forearm. The horizontal support is carried between the elbow and the palm. The vertical loop portion centers the plate holder portion under the server's forearm and the plate holder portion positions the plate holders centered under the forearm longitudinally closer to the elbow than the palm. The plate holders comprise a stationary lower jaw and a pivoting upper jaw allowing adjustment to hold a variety of plates.

  • Publication number: 20120081394
Abstract: A method of image augmentation for an image of a book includes capturing an image of the book, detecting at least a portion of at least one fiduciary marker of the book within the image, estimating placement of the book's spine based upon the detected portion of the fiduciary marker, hypothesising possible positions for edges of a rigid leaf being turned in the book based upon estimated placement of the spine, processing the book image to identify edges within the image, comparing elements of the identified edges with the hypothesised positions for edges of the rigid leaf, selecting one of the hypothesised positions that best coincides with the compared elements of the processed image as representative of the position of the rigid leaf being turned in the book, and augmenting the book image with a virtual graphic element arranged in accordance with the selected representative position of the rigid leaf.

  • Patent number: 7520550
Abstract: A plate carrier is carried on a server's forearm. The carrier comprises a horizontal support portion for carrying the plate carrier on the forearm and a vertical spine with at least one plate holder. The horizontal support resides between the elbow and the palm, and comprises a plastic support surface and a metal backing. The vertical spine extends downwardly from the horizontal support, looping around the forearm, and continuing downward below the server's forearm. The spine is laterally centered on the horizontal support, and longitudinally closer to the elbow than the palm. The plate holders extend longitudinally with respect to the horizontal support, and a majority of the plate holders extend forward from the spine.

  • Publication number: 20080253777
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system having a central station and a plurality of outstations. The central station is configured to execute a compensation procedure for compensating for degradation of data from the outstations, the compensation procedure having a plurality of adjustable characteristics, which characteristics are governed by a parameter set. The central station stores a respective parameter set in respect of each outstation; and, for each outstation, applies the compensation algorithm to data from that outstation using the parameter set associated with that outstation. In an initialization phase, the central station tests a plurality of starting parameter sets on data from a given outstation and selects the set providing the best compensation. The selected set is stored for subsequent compensation of data from that outstation.

  • Publication number: 20080037982
Abstract: A method of establishing a path through an optical communications network is disclosed. Previously known method for establishing a path through an optical communications network include checking the viability of an end-to-end path once the complete end-to-end path has been selected. However, additional (and hence wasted) processing may be expended in selecting an end-to-end path that turns out not to be viable this increasing the network operating costs. In the proposed method one or more partial paths are evaluated according to a first criterion, candidate end-to-end paths are then evaluated according to a second criterion, wherein the end-to-end path evaluation disregards candidate end-to-end paths that include partial paths not meeting the first criterion.

  • Publication number: 20060219504
Abstract: A damping apparatus for damping vibrations in a vibrating system including a piston which is reciprocally movable in a hydraulic fluid filled damper chamber, piston movement in either direction of movement being resisted by fluid pressure in the damper chamber behind the piston, which resistance provides damping forces which act to oppose piston movement, the piston being connected to one component of the vibrating system and the damping chamber being connected to a second component of the vibrating system, characterised in that the fluid at at least a first side of the piston acts on a movable part which is movable in response to changing fluid pressure in the damper chamber at the first side of the piston as the piston moves, the movable member providing a relief volume for the fluid into which and from which fluid may flow from and towards the first side of the piston without passing to an opposite second side of the piston.
