  • Publication number: 20130165107
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system of setting transmitter power levels, particularly in a Local Network Node transmitter, providing a pico cell for private use. A User Equipment (UE) is used to make measurements of the transmission link properties, such as downlink power and round trip time. Based on the measurements made at one or a plurality of locations, the power of the Local Network Node can be determined such that interference is minimized with any overlying cells of a macro-network. Call handovers between the UE and the cell of a macro network can also be arranged based on properties measure by the UE.

  • Patent number: 8001911
Abstract: A shelf is connected to risers that are interference fit together to achieve a clamping effect between the shelves and the risers. Each shelf may comprise a plastic shelf portion and at least one reinforcement portion secured to the plastic shelf portion to reinforce the plastic shelf portion along its length. In one embodiment a plurality of metal bars are used as the reinforcement portion having a tapered end. • Publication number: 20100290389
Abstract: In general, a method performed on a personal base station includes transmitting a first pilot signal to a portable access terminal operating in an idle mode in a macrocell that uses a first carrier frequency. The first pilot signal is transmitted in the first carrier frequency to allow the portable access terminal to temporarily connect to the first pilot signal. A second pilot signal is transmitted in a second frequency that is different than the first frequency. The portable access terminal is dispelled from the first pilot signal, and the portable access terminal is allowed to connect to the second pilot signal.

  • Publication number: 20080069020
Abstract: A transmitter is provided having transmission methods that minimize the power needed to ensure reliable reception in a coverage area. In one aspect, data that requires re-transmission as acknowledged mode data is re-transmitted when the power level of the transmission link is higher than a pre-determined level set for reliable reception. The data rate of the re-transmitted data is set according to the difference in the actual power and the pre-determined level. In a second aspect, two transmitting antennae are used to transmit the same signals with a frequency off-set. The frequency off set can be used to determine the phase of the signals being received at the receiver, so that a phase off-set can be introduced to optimise the effect of interference at the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20080003988
Abstract: A communication system comprising a local network node (LNN) is described for connecting with a user terminal in a 3G network. The LNN provides a local user-controlled access point for the network that may be installed in the home or office by-passing connection through network Node Bs. If the User passes outside the coverage area provided by the LNN, then a handover between the LNN and an appropriate Node B preferably takes place so that the User's connection to the 3G network is substantially unaffected. The LNN is arranged to provide protocol conversion between the 3G control messages received from the UE to the equivalent SIP/SDP messages required for maintenance of connections in Internet Protocol based networks, such as the Release 5 architecture.
