  • Publication number: 20200241614
Abstract: Systems and components are provided for charging an Information Handling System (IHS). Systems include an AC adapter configured to report attributes of the adapter. The adapter includes a DC cord that supports a data channel. The DC plug includes a circuit for operating an indicator light based on an control signal. The system includes a power port controller that receives the reported adapter attributes, determines a charging state of the IHS; generates the control signal based on the determined charging state; and transmits the control signal to the indictor light circuit via the data channel. The indicator control signal may be used to operate indicator lights on both ends of a reversible DC cord. The indicator control signal may specify a color or brightness of the indicator and may indicate a charging state of the IHS.

  • Patent number: 10620679
Abstract: A power storage adapter (PSA) may be connected to multiple battery-powered devices. A PSA controller may be configured to receive respective requests to supply electrical power to a first device and a second device, to determine that the power storage adapter does not have sufficient power supply capacity to satisfy both requests, to determine that a respective state of charge (SOC) of at least one device battery is below a first battery SOC threshold, and to prioritize supplying electrical power to a selected one of the devices at the expense of the other device based on a battery charging prioritization policy. The selected device may be prioritized until the battery SOC exceeds a battery SOC threshold or for a predetermined time period. The battery charging prioritization policy may specify relative charging priorities for the device batteries and a PSA battery dependent on whether AC line power is available.

  • Publication number: 20200083740
Abstract: Techniques for power source management in an information handling system (IHS) include detecting connection of multiple power sources to the IHS through respective DC adapters, obtaining data indicating the capabilities of each power source, obtaining data indicating a system load for the IHS, and generating, based on the obtained data, a load management plan specifying a target combined input power amount for power supplied by the multiple power sources and respective amounts of electrical power to be supplied by a single selected power source or by multiple selected power sources. The techniques also include combining the power supplied by each of the selected power sources into a combined input power and supplying the combined input power to the IHS. Prior to the combining, the voltage of the power supplied by a power source may be stepped up or down to a common voltage, or a power source may be de-rated.
