  • Publication number: 20180375357
Abstract: A power storage adapter may use a high efficiency charging method when supplying electrical power to a portable information handling system when the power storage adapter is not connected to AC line power. In particular, when the portable information handling system draws the electrical power below a low load threshold, such as during a low power state, the power storage adapter may avoid supplying electrical power. When an internal battery of the portable information handling system has an SOC less than a recharging state of charge for the internally battery, the power storage adapter may resume supplying power to the portable information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20180375341
Abstract: An external power storage adapter (PSA) may supply electrical power to a portable information handling system or other power consuming device. The power storage adapter may include an AC-DC converter, a battery, and intelligent power management functionality. A PSA controller may cause a PSA battery management unit to combine electrical power supplied by the AC-DC converter and electrical power supplied by the battery in order to supply enough electrical power for the information handling system to operate in a particular operating mode. The power storage adapter may output power to a port of the portable information handling system, such as a USB Type-C port, over a variable power bus. The maximum power supply capacity of the power storage adapter, when the battery is at least partially charged, may be greater than the maximum power supply capacity of the AC-DC converter alone.

  • Publication number: 20180373289
Abstract: A power storage adapter may use a power delivery contract establishment method when supplying electrical power to portable information handling systems when the amount of electrical power the power storage adapter is able to supply is less that the amount the portable information handling systems require. In particular, the power storage adapter may avoid supplying electrical power to one of the portable information handling systems that has gotten what is needs and may switch to supplying more electrical power to one of the other portable information handling systems that has not received what it requires.

  • Publication number: 20180375360
Abstract: A power storage adapter may use a peak shift operation method when supplying electrical power from an AC line power source to a portable information handling system and the power storage adapter receives an indication of a peak shift associated with the AC line power source. In particular, the power storage adapter may cease drawing power from the AC line power source and begin supplying electrical power from a battery included with the power storage adapter to the portable information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20180375342
Abstract: An external power storage adapter (PSA) may supply electrical power to a portable information handling system or other power consuming device. The power storage adapter may include an AC-DC converter, a battery, and intelligent power management functionality. A PSA controller may determine whether electrical power supplied by the power storage adapter should be sourced from the AC-DC converter or from the battery based on various operating parameters of the power storage adapter, such the temperature of the power storage adapter, the state of charge of the battery, the amount of electrical power being supplied by the AC-DC converter, or the amount of time that the AC-DC converter has been supplying electrical power. The power storage adapter may output power to a port of the portable information handling system, such as a USB Type-C port, over a variable power bus.

  • Publication number: 20180375361
Abstract: A power storage adapter may use a method for low standby power in a power storage adapter enabled by an associated battery when the power storage adapter is receiving electrical power from an AC line power source and the power storage adapter may have no external load drawing electrical power. In particular, the power storage adapter may avoid drawing electrical power from the AC line power source by using the associated battery to supply its electrical power, which may result in drawing near zero electrical power from the AC line power source.
