  • Publication number: 20200311475
Abstract: Vehicular in-cabin sensing is performed using machine learning. In-cabin sensor data of a vehicle interior is collected. The in-cabin sensor data includes images of the vehicle interior. An occupant is detected within the vehicle interior. The detecting is based on identifying an upper torso of the occupant, using the in-cabin sensor data. The imaging is accomplished using a plurality of imaging devices within a vehicle interior. The occupant is located within the vehicle interior, based on the in-cabin sensor data. An additional occupant within the vehicle interior is detected. A human perception metric for the occupant is analyzed, based on the in-cabin sensor data. The detecting, the locating, and/or the analyzing are performed using machine learning. The human perception metric is promoted to a using application. The human perception metric includes a mood for the occupant and a mood for the vehicle. • Patent number: 10772732
Abstract: Provided herein are implants and methods for producing implants. In at least one embodiment, the implants include sheet-based, triply periodic, minimal surface (TPMS) portions. According to one embodiment, the TPMS portions include a gyroid architecture that provides for improved osseointegration and mechanical performance over previous implants due to novel ratios of porosity to compressive strength, among other features. In one or more embodiments, the gyroid architecture is organized into unit cells that demonstrate anisotropic mechanical performance along an insertion direction. In various embodiments, the present methods include novel selective laser melting (SLM) techniques for forming the TPMS portions of implants in a manner that reduces defect formation, thereby improving compressive performance and other implant properties.

  • Publication number: 20200240329
Abstract: A gas turbine engine and method of starting, the gas turbine engine having a rotor comprising at least a shaft mounted compressor and turbine, with a casing surrounding the rotor. The method comprises an acceleration phase, a bowed-rotor cooling phase, during the acceleration, and a combustion phase. The bowed-rotor cooling phase comprises a time where the rotational speed of the rotor is maintained below a bowed-rotor threshold speed until a non-bowed condition is satisfied, wherein the air forced through the gas turbine engine cools the rotor. The combustion phase occurs after the bowed-rotor cooling phase and upon reaching the combustion speed, wherein fuel is supplied to the gas turbine engine is turned on.

  • Patent number: 10612915
Abstract: A system for active co-boresight measurement includes a detector, first and second steering mirrors, and a controller. The detector detects a portion of a transmission beam emitted by a transmitter and a portion of a received beam received from a remote terminal. The controller instructs the first steering mirror to scan the detected portion of the received beam to determine an alignment position. The controller controls a position of the first steering mirror to align the portion of the received beam with the alignment position on the detector, and controls a position of the second steering mirror to align the detected portion of the transmission beam with a defined position on the detector. The detected portion of the received beam at the alignment position and the detected portion of the transmission beam at the defined position correspond to the received beam and the transmission beam being aligned.

  • Publication number: 20200074154
Abstract: Analysis for convolutional processing is performed using logic encoded in a semiconductor processor. The semiconductor chip evaluates pixels within an image of a person in a vehicle, where the analysis identifies a facial portion of the person. The facial portion of the person can include facial landmarks or regions. The semiconductor chip identifies one or more facial expressions based on the facial portion. The facial expressions can include a smile, frown, smirk, or grimace. The semiconductor chip classifies the one or more facial expressions for cognitive response content. The semiconductor chip evaluates the cognitive response content to produce cognitive state information for the person. The semiconductor chip enables manipulation of the vehicle based on communication of the cognitive state information to a component of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20200056662
Abstract: A compact, energy efficient air cooling system for a rotating shaft bearing module includes a Coanda surface having a periphery that smoothly curves from a radial center to axial alignment with a side of the module. A fan blade mounted on the shaft directs an airflow radially parallel and adjacent to the Coanda surface, causing the airflow to be bent by the Coanda effect from radial to axial, and to be directed along the side of the housing. Embodiments that can be applied to existing housings include a Coanda panel adjacent to the housing end face. A double suction fan blade can draw both external air and air from between the panel and the housing. In other embodiments the housing end face itself is a Coanda surface. A fan cover can have an inwardly curved periphery that forms a reduced gap or nozzle with the Coanda surface.
