  • Patent number: 9002264
Abstract: A near field communication (NFC) communicator includes a housing, an NFC controller and an antenna circuit located in the housing. The antenna circuit enable inductive coupling of a near field electromagnetic signal with another antenna circuit in near field range. The antenna circuit includes an antenna element to generate the electromagnetic signal. The communicator also includes a receiver circuit located in the housing for extracting data from modulation induced in the electromagnetic signal which is caused by the inductive coupling of the near field electromagnetic signal with another antenna circuit, a transmitter circuit to generate the near field, a load modulator to modulate the near field to the reader and an energy harvesting circuit to power the rest of the circuit from the external field. A ferrite sheet is located in the housing such that a gap is maintained between the antenna element and the ferrite sheet.

  • Publication number: 20120031126
Abstract: A system for ice making includes a controller, a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, a water sump, a curtain disposed adjacent to the evaporator, a water distributor in communication with the water sump to draw water from the water sump and distribute the water over the evaporator during an ice making cycle, a water level sensor disposed in the water sump. The water sensor detects a high water level and signals the controller to initiate an ice making cycle, the sensor further detects a low water level in the sump and signals the controller to terminate the ice making cycle and initiates a harvest cycle. The system further includes a curtain sensor disposed about the curtain that detects when a harvest cycle has ended and sends a signal to a controller to fill the sump with water.

  • Patent number: 7177370
Abstract: An RF transmitter provides both GSM and EDGE capability by implementing collector voltage control over the power transistor(s) in a power amplifier. During EDGE mode, linear base-biasing a power amplifier (PA) allows collector control to provide either saturated mode PA operation (during ramp up/ramp down) or linear mode PA operation (during data burst). Collector control can therefore be used to provide the accurate ramp up and ramp down profiles required for both GSM and EDGE burst output signals, and can also be used to set the level of the constant envelope data burst of a GSM burst output signal, while linear mode PA operation can provide the non-constant envelope EDGE data burst. A variable gain amplifier is used to adjust the input signal to the power amplifier such that the desired transmission level is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6671500
Abstract: A system is disclosed for transmitting and receiving signals. The system includes the use of a frequency plan table a system for creating the frequency plan table. The frequency plan table relates carrier frequency channels to the operation of a synthesizer and a plurality of programmable frequency dividers in a locked loop. In a transmitter, a first programmable frequency divider accepts a reference signal and produces a comparison signal. A mixer accepts the reference signal and a transmission signal and produces a loop signal. A second programmable frequency divider accepts the loop signal and produces a loop signal having a divided intermediate frequency signal. A phase detector compares the comparison signal and the loop signal having a divided intermediate frequency and produces an output that controls a variable controlled oscillator. The variable controlled oscillator produces a modulated transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 6204734
Abstract: Method and apparatus for extending a VCO tuning range. A shunt inductance connected in parallel with a varactor reduces the effective capacitance of the varactor and increases the capacitance ratio. This increases the VCO tuning range without increasing the tuning sensitivity variation and the phase noise.
