  • Patent number: 8893300
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of a security system for reducing data leaks by checking information flows between resources of a network. When an information flow is attempted between a sending resource, which can be anywhere in the network, and a receiving resource residing at a specific host within the network, a host labeler can determine whether information is allowed to flow from the sending resource to the receiving resource. The sending resource and the receiving resource can each have an applicable label, and each label can comprise zero, one, or more taints. For each taint having an active secrecy characteristic in a label of the sending resource, the host labeler can require that there be a matching taint with active secrecy characteristic in the receiving resource. If this condition is not met, the security system can block the information flow between the sending and receiving resources.

  • Patent number: 8843335
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for the removal of significant broad-band noise from waveforms acquired for time domain network analysis. The method may include the steps of providing the noisy waveform as an input waveform, determining a frequency domain noise shape associated with the input waveform, calculating a wavelet domain noise shape from the frequency domain noise shape, calculating a discrete wavelet transform of the input waveform to form a wavelet domain waveform, and estimating the noise statistics from the wavelet domain waveform. A threshold may be calculated from the estimated noise statistics and the wavelet domain noise shape, and the threshold may be applied to the wavelet domain waveform to form a denoised wavelet domain waveform. Finally, an inverse discrete wavelet transform of the denoised wavelet domain waveform may be calculated to form a denoised waveform.

  • Publication number: 20140280017
Abstract: Architecture that enables extraction of pieces of content from the Internet, social networks, in particular, and/or of a user's immediate circle of friends and family, where the content relates to trending topics of those networks as relevant to a search query. The content effectively summarizes a trending topic (e.g., of a single social network or across multiple social networks). The summary can be characterized by different content types, such as images only, text only, and so on. The extracted content can then be presented in a number of different ways such as in a display that visually rotates through the different types of content, such as trending images, summarizing updates, and trending webpages, for example. Another technique for presentation of the extracted social content can be as user-selectable “hotspots” on a page or desktop, and which can display the trending topic summaries.

  • Publication number: 20140282514
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to enabling virtual machines to access data on a physical recording medium. In one embodiment, a computing system provides a logical address space for a storage device to an allocation agent that is executable to allocate the logical address space to a plurality of virtual machines having access to the storage device. In such an embodiment, the logical address space is larger than a physical address space of the storage device. The computing system may then process a storage request from one of the plurality of virtual machines. In some embodiments, the allocation agent is a hypervisor executing on the computing system. In some embodiments, the computing system tracks utilizations of the storage device by the plurality of virtual machines, and based on the utilizations, enforces a quality of service level associated with one or more of the plurality of virtual machines.

  • Publication number: 20140258382
Abstract: Controlling client side application congestion at least in part by using one or more heuristics to predict at a data producer node, such as a server, how much time an application at a data consumer node, such as a client, will require to process a unit of data is disclosed. In various embodiments, a predicted client side processing time associated with a unit of data to be sent to a client is determined. The predicted client side processing time associated with the unit of data is used to determine a time to send a data transmission to the client.

  • Patent number: 8776224
Abstract: According to an aspect of this invention, a method to detect phishing URLs involves: creating a whitelist of URLs using a first regular expression; creating a blacklist of URLs using a second regular expression; comparing a URL to the whitelist; and if the URL is not on the whitelist, comparing the URL to the blacklist. False negatives and positives may be avoided by classifying Internet domain names for the target organization as “legitimate”. This classification leaves a filtered set of URLs with unknown domain names which may be more closely examined to detect a potential phishing URL. Valid domain names may be classified without end-user participation.

  • Publication number: 20140181762
Abstract: A method for performing leakage analysis includes receiving information specifying an integrated circuit. A neighborhood of shapes associated with the integrated circuit is then determined Leakage information associated with the integrated circuit is generated based on the neighborhood of shapes. The neighborhood of shapes may be determined by determining a first set of spacings to a boundary of a first cell from an internal shape. A second set of spacings may be determined from the boundary of the first cell to a shape of a second cell. A lithography process may be characterized using the first and second set of spacings.
