  • Publication number: 20160272734
Abstract: A method can be used to provide electrically-conductive articles with electrolessly plated metal, or articles having antimicrobial properties for marine environments. The method includes disposing a silver-containing composition onto one or more supporting sides of a substrate such as continuous polymeric web. The silver-containing composition comprises a water-soluble complex of a reactive polymer with reducible silver ions, the reactive polymer comprising: (a) greater than 1 mol % of recurring units comprising sulfonic acid or sulfonate groups, (b) at least 5 mol % of recurring units comprising a pendant group capable of crosslinking via [2+2] photocycloaddition, and optionally (c) at least 1 mol % of recurring units comprising a pendant amide, hydroxyl, lactam, phosphonic acid, or carboxylic acid group. The reducible silver ions can be suitably reduced and the reactive polymer can be photoexposed to provide crosslinking in patternwise or uniform fashion.

  • Patent number: 9181442
Abstract: Aqueous ink jet ink compositions are used for ink jet printing colorless, colored or invisible images on receiver elements. These compositions contain a dispersion of an unsaturated natural oil and a water compatible polyurethane. The unsaturated oil dispersion is prepared from conventional surfactants or a polyurethane dispersing agent. The polyurethane is prepared from unsaturated polyol segments prepared from the unsaturated natural oils. The ink preparations are printed on media treated with agents such as metal ions known to catalyze crosslinking reactions in unsaturated oils. Such compositions are useful in various ink jet printing systems including drop on demand and continuous ink jet printing systems.

  • Patent number: 9145502
Abstract: Aqueous ink jet ink compositions can be used for ink jet printing colored or invisible images on receiver elements. These compositions contain a polymeric agent comprising core-shell polymeric particles. The core of the particles comprises a hydrophobic polymer having an acid number less than 10. The shell of the particles comprises a hydrophilic polymer having an acid number of at least 70. The weight ratio of the core to the shell is at least 50:50 and up to and including 90:10. Such compositions can be used in various ink jet printing systems including drop on demand and continuous ink jet printing systems.

  • Publication number: 20150125674
Abstract: A conductive pattern is prepared in a polymeric layer that has (a) a reactive polymer comprising pendant tertiary alkyl ester groups, (b) a compound that provides an acid upon exposure to radiation having a ?max of at least 150 nm and up to and including 450 nm, and (c) a crosslinking agent. The polymeric layer is patternwise exposed to provide a polymeric layer comprising non-exposed regions and exposed regions comprising a polymer comprising carboxylic acid groups. The exposed regions are contacted with electroless seed metal ions to form a pattern of electroless seed metal ions. The pattern of electroless seed metal ions is then reduced to provide a pattern of corresponding electroless seed metal nuclei. The corresponding electroless seed metal nuclei are then electrolessly plated with a conductive metal.
