  • Patent number: 4459272
Abstract: A process for the dry carbonation of an ammonium or alkali metal carbonate containing material, or a mixture thereof, for conversion to the corresponding bicarbonate containing material comprising reacting in the solid phase an ammonium and/or alkali metal carbonate containing material with liquid water in a carbon dioxide rich atmosphere at a particle temperature of from about 125.degree. F. to about 240.degree. F. for a period of time sufficient to effect the desired conversion of the carbonate groups of said carbonate containing material to bicarbonate groups, the reaction temperature being controlled by the evaporation of liquid water at the reaction site and the removal of the resulting water vapor from the reactor atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4265790
Abstract: Dry blended carbonate or phosphate-based laundry detergents are prepared by adding to unhydrated or partially hydrated builder salts, a pH buffering compound and a detergent active compound, together with other formulating agents, coarse, hydrous granular water soluble silicate particles, the silicate particles passing a 10 mesh screen and about 95% of the particles are retained on a 100 mesh screen, according to the disclosed method. Dry blended laundry detergents so formulated are substantially completely free of insoluble product lumps when used in cold wash water in the temperature range of 35.degree.-75.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 4196095
Abstract: Magnesium stearate is added to dry blended detergent or detergent additive compositions in order to disperse the compositions in wash water and prevent the formation of large insoluble lumps when the formulation is used in cold washing water, generally below 75.degree. F. The formulations also include a major proportion of one or more unhydrated or partially hydrated hydratable detergent builder salts, at least half of which is sodium carbonate, together with up to 30% by weight of a synthetic detergent active compound or mixture of such compounds.
