Abstract: An electric drive unit for a motor vehicle comprises an electric motor having a motor housing, a stator mounted in the motor housing and having coil-wound poles, a rotor arranged internally of the stator with an air gap present between the stator and the rotor, and a planetary gear system having a sun wheel, a planet carrier, planet wheels and a ring gear. The planet wheels have a maximum diameter and axial positioning that an imaginary common envelope cylinder for all maximum diameters of the planet wheels is located radially inside of the winding heads present on one axial side of the stator and axially beside the portion of the rotor adjoining the air gap and that the planet wheels project in axial direction outwardly beyond said winding heads either not at all or with less than 50% of their tooth width in engagement with the sun wheel.

Abstract: An electric machine (2) comprising a rotor (4) and a stator (6) arranged coaxially therewith, at least one of said rotor (4) and stator (6) being formed of a plurality of parts and there being provided a bandage (16) holding together the plurality of parts of said rotor and/or stator (6), wherein the bandage (16) is formed of an electrically non-conducting fiber material having a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the parts of said rotor (4) and/or stator (6).

Abstract: A process for installing axle springs on vehicles having different spring supported bodies and components mounted on such bodies, generally consisting of creating a database comprising loads of each of such bodies and components, identifying the body and components of each of such vehicles, accessing the database to retrieve data representing the composite load of the identified body and components, identifying axle springs having load capacity ranges sufficient to support the identified load and installing the identified axle springs on the vehicle body.

Abstract: Iron is desulfurized with a compacted article composed of calcium carbide and a gas-generating solid whereby the article is disintegrated during desulfurization resulting in a substantial total consumption of the carbide and a resultant decrease of residual carbide in the slag produced.
