  • Publication number: 20040122848
Abstract: A system and method for descriptively naming links to facilitate subsequent identification of the links. Various naming sources are identified as candidates for inclusion in a link name for the link. Naming rules are applied to identify one or more of the naming sources to be included in the link name. The link name is generated based on the naming sources identified by the naming rules.

  • Publication number: 20040043758
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed to provide recommendations to a wireless device, based on stored bookmark/short-cut data. When a wireless device accesses services, data pertaining to the service access, along with any context related information is transmitted within the wireless device, or to a remote server. The data is processed in conjunction with bookmarks/short-cuts specified within the device, and are organized and presented to the wireless device in accordance with preference instructions specified within the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20030225520
Abstract: A method for teaching an anomaly detecting mechanism in a system comprising observable elements (302), at least one of which has a periodic time-dependent behaviour, the anomaly detecting mechanism comprising a computerized learning mechanism (314). The method comprises assembling indicators (304) indicating the behaviour of the elements (302) and arranging the assembled indicators such that each observable element's indicators are assigned to the same input data component. The learning mechanism (314) is taught so that the input data of the learning mechanism comprises the input data components which are based on the assembled indicators (304). Points which approximate the input data are placed in the input space. A presentation of time (420-424) is incorporated into at least one input data component wherein the presentation of time is periodic, continuous and unambiguous within the period of the at least one element with periodic time-dependent behaviour.

  • Publication number: 20030004937
Abstract: A distributed recommendation system and method are disclosed that provides greater privacy for the user's private data. The method distributes the tasks of a recommendation system between wireless devices and network servers, so as to protect the privacy of end users. The system and method provide greater privacy for context-sensitive, adaptive, user interfaces for Internet service usage by wireless devices. The user's wireless device sends a current context-activity pair to a network server in response to either the user's selection of an activity or automatically. The user's wireless device includes a service history log. The activities stored in the service history log include past recommendations made by the network server, past services used, prestored service preferences, and special requested service requirements. Context-activity pair information sent to the server can include any combination of these activities. The server then responds an appropriate recommendation.

The server then responds an appropriate recommendation. Recommendations received from the server by the wireless device are filtered to identify new or significant information. As the system makes new recommendations to users in response to context-activity pairs submitted by their wireless devices, the server gathers the new context-activity pairs and recommendations and adds them to its context-activity pair database.

  • Publication number: 20020147766
Abstract: A system and method manages user privacy in a network environment through a distributed user system including a user device and profile operator. The management of user privacy involves recognizing one or more service opportunities of a service operator on a user device operated by a user, determining a privacy level at which communications is conducted with a service operator relating to the one or more service opportunities on the user device, determining a profile access level on the user device, transmitting the profile access level to the service operator, and enabling the service operator to obtain a subset of profile information of the user according to the profile access level.
