  • Publication number: 20020114297
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method used in a CDMA-type radio system. A base station and terminal equipments exchange data at least in a packet switched mode, and a terminal equipment transmits to the base station on a random access channel a random access signal comprising at least a preamble (100) and a data part (102) multiplied by a spreading code. A predetermined set of spreading codes and signature sequences (104) are stored in the terminal equipment, and each signature sequence (104) determines one spreading code. The terminal equipment selects one signature sequence (104) by a random process from the set of signature sequences and adds the selected signature sequence (104) to the preamble (100) of the random access signal. Further, the terminal equipment uses the spreading code corresponding to the selected signature sequence (104) in the data part (102) of the random access signal.

  • Publication number: 20020093940
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in the uplink synchronous transmission in UTRA FDD. As the downlink DPCH field carries a transmit power command (TPC) in each of the slots in a radio frame, the TPC can be replaced by a Time alignment bit (TAB) to indicate whether the received arrival time at a Node B of a DPCH message from a UE is earlier or later than a desired arrival time. The TAB is sent to the UE over a number of times so as to allow the UE to adjust the uplink transmission time based on a summed value of the TABs. Preferably, the TABs are summed over 200 ms so that the searcher in Node B has sufficient time to verify the position of the UE in the time domain.

  • Patent number: 6377606
Abstract: A method for reducing interference and a radio system where a signal spreadcoded by digital pseudo noise is used for communication are provided. As the delay distribution of the signals of subscriber terminal equipment at base stations is great and thus the mutual interference of the signals may also be great, the base station adjusts the phase of the spreading codes of the subscriber terminal equipment so as to reduce interference. The method and the radio system enable high data rates and reduce the calculation required for interference correction.

  • Patent number: 6374118
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of physical channel power control in a radio system and to a radio system. The method comprises (458) establishing a physical channel with at least one spreading code, (452) placing at least one service in the physical channel, and (464) performing physical channel power control according to the carrier/interference target set for the physical channel. According to the invention one service is (460) selected from among the active services placed in the physical channel, and the carrier/interference target of the one selected service is (462) set to lead physical channel power control.

  • Patent number: 6359865
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of implementing macrodiversity in a cellular radio network having in each cell at least one base station which communicates with subscriber terminals within its area. Packet switched connections are provided between the base station and the terminals, the connections comprising an actual traffic channel and a separate control channel. In signal transmission, the terminals use IQ modulation in which the traffic and control channels are multiplexed to be transmitted on different branches, and the terminals can communicate with more than one base station simultaneously. To enable macrodiversity in packet switched connections, the actual traffic channel connection is also maintained between the terminal and only one base station, and the control channel connection is maintained between the terminal and more than one base station simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20010053173
Abstract: A method and radiod device are provided for interleaving a stream of data (201) consisting of digital information symbols prior to transmission over a radio interface. A permutation is performed (202, 203, 401, 402) to the stream of digital data, thus producing a permutated stream of digital data (204). From the permutated stream of digital data there are provided at least two component streams (404) for mapping each component stream into a spreading code (406). The order of information symbols is reversed (405) in at least one component stream prior to mapping it into a spreading code.

  • Patent number: 6269126
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for a radio system including at least one base station and terminal equipment including a receiver and a transmitter. The transmitter is structured and arranged to independently adjust a symbol rate of at least two signals and combine the two signals after adjusting the symbol rate. The transmitter then transmits the combined signal along one physical path. By adjusting the signal rate before combining the two signals, the transmitter optimizes the signal qualities of each of the signals.

  • Publication number: 20010008838
Abstract: The invention relates to operations in TDD (time division duplex) mode in third generation cellular telecommunication systems. According to the invention, the power level of midamble of the burst sent in the slot of the PICH channel has a predefined relation to the power level of the bursts sent at the primary CCPCH channel. This allows the mobile communication means to receive only one burst for obtaining both desired pieces of information by decoding the PICH bits to find out if a paging message is to be received, and measuring the reception level of the midamble of the PICH burst for determining the quality of the radio connection.
