  • Publication number: 20150110662
Abstract: Permanent magnets are used for several important applications, including de electrical motors, wind turbines, hybrid automobile, and for many other applications. Modern widely used rare-earth based permanent magnet materials, such as Sm—Co and Nd—Fe—B, are generally intermetallic alloys made from rare earth elements and transition metals such as cobalt. However, the high costs of rare earth elements make the widespread use of these permanent magnets commercially unattractive. The present work focuses on producing a new permanent magnet material, with good magnetic properties, which is free from rare-earth elements and thus cost-effective. The present invention provides a process to synthesis boron doped manganese antimonide as an alternative to rare earth based permanent magnet materials. The boron doped manganese antimonide disclosed in this invention is free from rare-earth element with good magnetic properties.

  • Patent number: 9013793
Abstract: An eyepiece includes an eyepiece frame, an in-coupling polarization beam splitter (“PBS”), an end reflector, and an out-coupling PBS. The eyepiece frame defines an air cavity and includes an illumination region for receiving computer generated image (“CGI”) light into the eyepiece frame and a viewing region to be aligned with an eye of a user. The in-coupling PBS is supported within the eyepiece frame at the illumination region to re-direct the CGI light to a forward propagation path extending along the air cavity towards the viewing region. The end reflector is disposed to reflect the CGI light back along a reverse propagation path within the eyepiece frame. The out-coupling PBS is supported at the viewing region to pass the CGI light traveling along the forward propagation path and to redirect the CGI light traveling along the reverse propagation path out of an eye-ward side of the eyepiece frame.

  • Patent number: 8959503
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to ensuring that only one version of an application is running on a cluster. In one scenario, a computer system includes a configuration agent that generates service instance version queries upon startup to determine which service instance version to activate, maintains a service instance version table that includes a listing of service instance versions currently running on the computer system as part of one or more application instances and activates specified service instances. The computer system also includes a failover manager that manages service instance version queries. The failover manager indicates which service instance version to activate to ensure that the appropriate, current version is activated for each service instance. The computer system further includes a cluster manager that creates, deletes and upgrades service instances as part of an application instance upgrade.

  • Patent number: 8936435
Abstract: A wind turbine blade includes a root region. A first extension (LEX) is attached to the leading edge side of the root region while a trailing edge strake (TES) is attached to the trailing edge side of the root region. The LEX and TES each include an outer profile that becomes more pronounced relative to their respective locations in the root region as the root region of the wind turbine blade morphs from a substantially cylindrical shape to a substantially airfoil shape. The LEX provides both optimal angle of attack and lift generation in the root region, while the TES mitigates airflow separation and enhances airfoil lift in the root region.
