  • Publication number: 20170181653
Abstract: A catheter is provided with improved position and/or location sensing with the use of single axis sensors that are mounted directly along a length or portion of the catheter whose position/location is of interest. The magnetic based, single axis sensors are provided on a single axis sensor (SAS) assembly, which can be linear or nonlinear as needed. A catheter of the present invention thus includes a catheter body and a distal member of a particular 2D or 3D configuration that is provided by a support member on which at least one, if not at least three single axis sensors, are mounted serially along a length of the support member. In one embodiment, the magnetic-based sensor assembly including at least one coil member that is wrapped on the support member, wherein the coil member is connected via a joint region to a respective cable member adapted to transmit a signal providing location information from the coil member to a mapping and localization system.

  • Publication number: 20160338770
Abstract: Apparatus, consisting of a catheter having a distal end and a predefined outer diameter. The apparatus also has a plurality of elastic filaments, each filament having at least one electrode fixed thereto and having two ends fixed within the catheter distal end to hold the filament as a loop. The loop intertwines with one or more other loops of the other filaments so that the plurality of the filaments forms an open lattice, which expands when uncompressed to a lattice diameter at least 5 times greater than the outer diameter of the catheter.

  • Patent number: 9474850
Abstract: Medical apparatus includes a flexible insertion shaft, which is adapted for insertion into a body of a patient. A resilient end section is fixed to the distal end of the insertion shaft and is formed so as to assume, when unconstrained, an arcuate shape. One or more electrodes are disposed at respective locations along the end section. A first lumen runs from the insertion shaft through the end section so as to convey an irrigation fluid to exit the end section through perforations of the electrodes. A second lumen runs through the insertion shaft to a distal opening and is configured to permit a guide wire to pass through the second lumen from the proximal end of the insertion shaft to exit distally through the distal opening, while conveying the irrigation fluid from the proximal end through the distal opening together with the guide wire.

  • Publication number: 20160302859
Abstract: A system for measuring real-time tissue reflection spectral characteristics during ablation includes a catheter for collecting light reflected from tissue undergoing ablation, a detection component for separating constituent wavelengths of the collected light, a quantification apparatus for generating measured light intensity data of the collected light, and a processor for analyzing the data in relation to time. A method for monitoring formation of steam pop during ablation includes delivering light to tissue, delivering ablative energy to the tissue, measuring the reflectance spectral intensity of the tissue, and observing whether the measured reflectance spectral instensity (MRSI) initially increases in a specified time period followed by a decrease at a specified rate. If the MRSI does not decrease, delivery of ablation energy continues.

  • Patent number: 8986300
Abstract: A catheter adapted for insertion into a body of a subject has at least one electrode disposed on its distal section. The electrode is coupled to an energy source to ablate tissue that is placed in contact with the electrode. The electrode has a wall with a plurality of perforations formed therethrough, and has edges defining a peripheral section that is adjacent the edges and a central section remote from the edges, wherein the wall of the peripheral section is thicker than the wall of the central section. A lumen passing through the insertion tube is coupled to deliver a fluid to the tissue via the perforations. In operation, the electrode functions as an effective heat sink.

  • Patent number: 8900229
Abstract: A medical probe includes an insertion tube, having a longitudinal axis and having a distal end. A distal tip is disposed at the distal end of the insertion tube and is configured to be brought into contact with a body tissue. A joint couples the distal tip to the distal end of the insertion tube. A joint sensor, contained within the probe, senses a position of the distal tip relative to the distal end of the insertion tube. The joint sensor includes first and second subassemblies, which are disposed within the probe on opposite, respective sides of the joint and each include one or more magnetic transducers.
