  • Publication number: 20140094725
Abstract: A method of controlling a compression device controls a vent phase of a compression device having an inflatable bladder capable of being pressurized for applying compression to a part of a subject's body. The method includes delivering pressurized fluid from a source of pressurized fluid to a first inflatable bladder disposed about a portion of the subject's body and venting the pressurized fluid from the first inflatable bladder by opening a first valve. The method further includes monitoring fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder during the venting of the first inflatable bladder. Based at least in part on the monitored fluid pressure, the first valve is selectively closed and selectively reopened to control fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder to remain within a desired residual pressure range.

  • Publication number: 20130331749
Abstract: A compression garment including a bladder having a reduced inflatable volume. Connector elements positioned inside an inflatable chamber of the bladder limit expansion of the bladder for limiting a fluid volume required for fully inflating or expanding the bladder. A controller inflates and deflates the inflatable chamber for imparting compression therapy on a body part on which the garment is worn. The reduced inflation volume of the inflatable chamber reduces the demand on a pump of the controller.

  • Publication number: 20130325003
Abstract: An occlusion treatment device is disclosed that is configured and dimensioned for the treatment of a lumen that is at least partially blocked by an occlusion. The occlusion treatment device comprises a catheter including a body portion with proximal and distal ends, at least one expandable element that is secured to the body portion of the catheter, and a material removal element that extends distally from the distal end of the body portion including a debriding member in communication with an energy source to facilitate selective energizing of the debriding member. The catheter is axially movable through the lumen, and rotatable within the lumen, such that the material removal element selectively imparts non-mechanical and/or mechanical energy to the occlusion to effect debriding of the occlusion.

  • Publication number: 20130274728
Abstract: A tissue treatment apparatus for restoring patency in a body vessel is provided. The tissue treatment apparatus includes an elongated catheter dimensioned for insertion within a body vessel having an at least partial occlusion. Proximal and distal expandable segments are mounted to the elongated catheter and are positionable adjacent the occlusion and are configured to transition from a first condition to a second expanded condition. A mesh in operative engagement with the proximal and distal expandable segments is expandable radially outwardly from the catheter upon corresponding transition of the proximal and distal expandable segments to the second condition. The mesh includes a conductive material adapted to transmit electrosurgical energy to treat and facilitate removal of the occlusion, to thereby assist in restoring patency within the body vessel.

  • Publication number: 20130267891
Abstract: A thrombectomy catheter system is disclosed which includes a catheter having an exhaust lumen, an infusion lumen and a high pressure tube. The high pressure tube includes a nozzle orifice for forming a high pressure jet of fluid for cutting occlusive material from within a body lumen. The nozzle orifice is positioned to direct the high pressure jet of fluid into the distal end of the exhaust lumen which creates a suctioning effect. The infusion lumen replaces fluid that is removed from the body lumen through the exhaust lumen by a suctioning effect created by the fluid jet.

  • Patent number: 8235923
Abstract: A device for applying compression treatment to a part of a wearer's body comprises first and second inflatable bladders spaced apart from one another along an axis of the device. A line of weakness in a connecting section between the first and second bladders extends generally transverse to the axis of the device for selectively separating the inflatable bladders from one another. The device includes an overlying layer in generally opposing relationship to one of the first and second bladder layers. The overlying layer is discontinuous generally adjacent to the line of weakness to define terminal edge margins of the overlying layer extending generally along the line of weakness. Each of the terminal edge margins are connected to at least one of the first and second bladder layers on an opposite side of the line of weakness from the other terminal edge margin.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a wound dressing system is presented. The wound dressing system includes a fluid permeable support layer, the support layer configured for positioning within a wound and adapted to generally conform to a topography of the wound, and to permit exudates from the wound to pass therethrough. The wound dressing system further includes a plurality of beads supported by the support layer, the beads defining an insulated inter-connected elongate member and an electrode embedded within and extending through at least a portion of the elongate member. Also, a current is generated by an external energy source that electrically flows through the electrode.
