  • Patent number: 4825916
Abstract: A flow control valve for use in dispensing fuel or other fluid and which can be facilely installed in the inlet end of an automatic fuel dispensing nozzle. This flow control valve does not incorporate a valve seat, for its piston like valve, and pressure compensation is controlled by the valve and includes a sleeve incorporating a slidable piston therein, a fluid outlet port is provided at one end of the sleeve, and which is capable of being partially closed by the slide of the piston therein, under fluid pressure conditions, to thereby create a pressure drop that eventually forces the piston into the sleeve and to close off the sleeve port openings in order to reduce fluid flow, during a dispensing function.

  • Patent number: 4809753
Abstract: An attitude control device for use in combination with a fuel dispensing nozzle, incorporating a connector that secures to the normally disposed vent tube provided within the spout of such a nozzle, the connector contains passages therein for venting of any nozzle generated vacuum to the atmosphere, but incorporates a cylinder held ball valve which when seats upon a valve seat, provided within the connector, functions to prevent any further venting of any generated vacuum, and immediately initiates a shut off of the fuel dispensing nozzle, and curtails any further flow of fuel through the same.

  • Patent number: 4667883
Abstract: A butterfly valve provided within a disconnect of a fluid flow line, such as in a fuel dispensing system, incorporating a pair of decoupling members, at least one or a pair of butterfly valves mounted within and in proximity with location for disconnection of the conduit, the butterfly valve incorporating a valve disk held by a retainer and which is spring biased for snapping into closure against its valve seat, when disconnection occurs, to prevent the further flow of fuel from the conduit, or in the instance where a pair of the butterfly valves of this design, are incorporated proximate each of the disconnect members, upon severance of the conduit or hose at this location, effecting an immediate closure of both butterfly valves, preventing the discharge of any further fluid from the remaining separated parts of the fluid conduit.

  • Patent number: 4658987
Abstract: This invention adds a fuel pressure sensitive piston at a location adjacent to the automatic shut off mechanism of a fuel dispensing nozzle. A lever responsive to the reciprocal movements of the piston biases against the diaphragm of the shut off mechanism raising it and disengaging its associated latch mechanism for release of the dispenser handle and closure of the nozzle poppet valve when there is no fuel being delivered from the pump. When there is fuel pressure from the pump at the inlet of the nozzle, the piston is forced in an opposite direction releasing its contact through a lever with said diaphragm and allowing the automatic shut off mechanism to routinely function.

  • Patent number: 4615547
Abstract: A multi-plane swivel connector for use in attaching a pair of fluid conveying members together, the connector including a pair of swivel portions, that connect together at proximate ends, one end being insertable within the other, a double sealed connection provided at the junction of the connection of the swivel ends together, there being a swivel nut securing externally to the outer end of one of the pair of swivel portions, there being a double sealed connection provided between the said swivel nut and the said contiguous swivel portion, there being a pair of O-rings provided at each of the double sealed connections between the swivel portions, and the connection of the swivel nut to one of these swivel portions, said pair of O-rings at each double sealed connection being of step relationship with one O-ring being of greater diameter than the other O-ring, one of the O-rings being formed of fluoro carbon, while the other O-ring of each double sealed connection being formed of fluoro silicone; and during th

  • Patent number: 4596278
Abstract: A balanced, two-stage pressure poppet valve for a fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed, with the valve controlling the dispensing of fuel. When the valve is closed, fluid pressure aids in holding the valve in its closed position and, upon effecting opening of the valve, a first valve member is opened thereby to dump the fuel pressure acting on the valve holding it closed immediately prior to opening of the main valve member so that only the biasing force of a spring (and not the fuel pressure forces) need be overcome to open the valve for fuel dispensing purposes. Further, a flexible flow stabilizer member is positioned downstream from the main valve so as to reduce turbulence in the flow path of the dispensing nozzle and to minimize flow and pressure surges. Also, an improved configuration of a check valve in the nozzle is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4559982
Abstract: A pressure actuated poppet valve for a fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed having a piston therein movable between a first and a second position. In the first position, the piston holds a plurality of coupling or latching balls in coupling engagement with an axially movable stem so that upon a user pulling the actuator handle or lever of the dispensing nozzle, the poppet valve is opened for the dispensing of fuel. When the dispenser goes off such that there is no fuel pressure in the hose upstream from the nozzle, a spring within the poppet valve pushes the piston from its first to its second position, thus permitting the coupling balls to move clear of the stem, allowing the poppet valve to close, and preventing opening of the poppet valve upon the subsequent actuating of the nozzle handle.

  • Patent number: 4397447
Abstract: An improved poppet valve constructed having a lower member partially mating and fitting within an upper portion is constructed in the shape of a top hat, and with the lower member having a formed shoulder upon which a gasket seats, and being biased thereagainst by means of the flanged upper portion of the valve, with a spring forcing these various components, including the gasket, against the valve seat of the body of the dispenser. An aperture is formed through the base member of the valve, and opens into that location between this base member and the upper portion of the poppet valve, thereby effectively venting any encapsulated air located between these two components, or to prevent the development of any vacuum therein.
