  • Patent number: 4838499
Abstract: The cable braking member for the drive of a safety belt retightener consists of three triangularly arranged stud-shaped obstructions between which the pulling cable is led. A progressing increase of the restraining force generated by the cable braking member is achieved in that the contacting faces of the stud-shaped obstructions are inclined at an angle of inclination of less than 90.degree. to the guide plane of the pulling cable.

  • Patent number: 4828286
Abstract: In the dish-shaped hub body of a steering wheel between two concentric cylindrical walls and a bottom wall connecting them an annular cavity is formed into which the propellent charge of a gas generator is introduced. This cavity is sealed by an outwardly arched closure plate provided with gas passage openings. An inflatable gas bag in the form of a hose ring is secured with its opening edges to a support plate which is secured at its peripheral edge to the steering wheel body. A separate gas generator housing can be dispensed with.

  • Patent number: 4810005
Abstract: The bottom wall (12) of a rectangular housing (10) comprises a trough-like depression (14) which is sealed on the inside of the housing (10) by a cover (22) provided with a securing flange (22A). A propellant charge (42) is introduced into the trough-like depression (14). The housing (10) is sealed at its front side by a covering formed by two pivotal foamed material plates (30, 32). In the interior of the housing (10) a folded gas bag (26) is accommodated which is inflated by the gases forming on combustion of the propellant charge (42) and flowing through gas passage openings of the cover (22) into the interior of the gas bag (26). Since the propellant charge (42) can be introduced directly or using a simple capsule housing of plastic into the interior of the trough (14) a separate and involved gas generator housing can be dispensed with.

  • Patent number: 4767078
Abstract: A bearing for the rotatable mounting of a control disc in an automatic safety belt retractor is disclosed. The relative rotation between the belt reel and the control disc activates an emergency blocking mechanism. In order to reduce the axial dimension of the control disc, the bearing comprises a bearing journal inserted into a central bearing opening of a hub of the control disc, and one of the axial ends of the opening is widened to receive an insert having a bearing bore receiving the adjacent axial end of the bearing journal. The bearing journal has a radial shoulder and the insert has detent elements engaging behind the radial shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4750686
Abstract: The belt tightener on a safety belt retractor comprises a pulling cable which is coupled to a drive source and which engages the periphery of a pulley. The pulley is non-rotatably connected to a gear. The gear is mounted rotatably on a swivel lever or crank which in turn is pivotally mounted on a side wall of the retractor frame. A shear pin has two portions of different cross sections and maintains the swivel crank in an initial position such that the gear is out of engagement with a pinion forming an extension of the belt reel. At the same time the shear pin holds the gear against rotation on the swivel crank. In initiation of a belt tightening operation firstly the weaker dimensioned portion of the shear pin is overcome so that the drive gear is moved into engagement with the pinion. Only thereafter is the second portion of the pin sheared off so that the gear becomes rotatable.

  • Patent number: 4748696
Abstract: A safety helmet has a shell with a visor movably supported on both sides. By means of a bearing pin and a control pin guided along cam surfaces, the visor can be positioned over the face opening of the helmet or swung upwardly. Detents for the pins define positions for the visor including a flush mounting in the face opening, a venting position at which the visor is spaced from the helmet shell but remains over the face opening, and an upward position. These positions are preferably achieved by means of a control disc having displacement and rotation defining detents, engaging the bearing and control pins on each side of the visor.

  • Patent number: 4703949
Abstract: The drive means of the passive safety belt is provided with a coupling which is disposed between the takeoff side of the worm gearing and a cable drum (28) and which is formed by a toothed slider (20) and two internally toothed rings (29, 30) at the inner face of the cable drum (28). Said coupling is controlled by an inertia disk (25) in whose radial grooves (23, 24) guide studs (21, 22) of the toothed slider (20) are guided slidingly. The coupling is not engaged until an adequately high drive speed is reached, said engagement being effected in that the toothed slider (20) is moved radially outwardly and with one of its coupling teeth (31, 32) comes into engagement with the corresponding internally toothed ring (29, 30). When the coupling is disengaged the end fitting of the safety belt can be easily displaced by hand.

  • Patent number: 4685740
Abstract: In a normal three-point automatic safety belt system the webbing is generally led from an end fitting secured to the vehicle over a guide fitting to a belt takeup means which is disposed on the same side of the vehicle seat as the guide fitting. Along the webbing a slide buckle can be displaced which can be releasably locked to a belt lock which is secured on the opposite side of the vehicle seat to the vehicle. When the slide buckle is inserted into the webbing it divides the latter into a lap portion and a shoulder portion. To secure a child's seat on the vehicle seat by means of such a normal three-point automatic safety belt system by the lap portion bearing on the child's seat the safety belt system is equipped with an additional clamping means which permits tightening of the lap portion but offers resistance to loosening of the lap portion.

  • Patent number: 4629214
Abstract: The feed device for a safety belt system for motor vehicles has an automatic belt roll-up, a belt lock and a locking tongue, a feed ram being movable, through a drive device, in two opposite directions, which at the free end is loosely coupled with the section of the belt band having the locking tongue, which moves the belt band and the locking tongue, for the putting on of the belt, into a convenient position in front of or to the side of the vehicle's passenger, and then back again into the original position. To make possible the installation of the feed device even into a narrow space, it is provided, according to the invention, that a ram receiver is present, of which the projection length perpendicular to the base plane of the vehicle, is much less than the length of the feed distance through which the feed tappet must pass.

  • Patent number: 4597544
Abstract: A safety belt retractor has a belt spool which is rotatably supported on a frame. A belt slack retightening mechanism is positively coupled to the belt spool to drive the belt spool in a direction upon occurrence of excessive deceleration of the vehicle. A blocking device is operable to block the belt spool from rotation. A control apparatus is provided to control the blocking device in response to acceleration of belt webbing withdrawal from the belt spool. The control apparatus includes a control disc which is supported for limited relative rotation with respect to the belt spool. An inertial disc is coupled with the control disc for rotation therewith by a coupling. The coupling permits rotation of the inertial disc with respect to the control disc only upon the exceeding of a predetermined retightening rotational acceleration of the belt spool and control disc.
