  • Patent number: 4606196
Abstract: An insulation system, and method of fabricating insulating means, comprising insulating material having good heat transfer resistance at pressures between 1 and 500 microns of mercury, and hydrophobic molecular sieve adsorbent having a water capacity of less than 12 percent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 1984
Date of Patent: August 19, 1986
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Arun Acharya, Michael F. Patterson, Jeffert J. Nowobilski
  • Patent number: 4561498
Abstract: A heat exchanger for use with a pressurized fluid having a three-section sealing baffle between the inlet and outlet which improves efficiency by causing the fluid to flow more evenly and reducing the tendency of the fluid to recirculate or flow in eddies.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1984
Date of Patent: December 31, 1985
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Jeffert J. Nowobilski, Arun Acharya
  • Patent number: 4526877
Abstract: An attrition resistant molecular sieve composition comprising a generally spherical, high porosity molecular sieve particle having an exposed surface coated with a thin, generally uniform layer of solid lubricant which can be employed in fixed, moving or fluidized beds with low attrition and without significantly reduced activity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 1984
Date of Patent: July 2, 1985
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Arun Acharya, William E. BeVier
  • Patent number: 4300356
Abstract: A refrigeration storage assembly for the storage of biological materials and the like wherein a higher temperature mechanical refrigeration source and a very low temperature cyrogenic liquid refrigeration source coact to maintain an intermediate low storage temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 21, 1979
Date of Patent: November 17, 1981
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Frank Notaro, Arun Acharya, Kenneth C. Kather
  • Patent number: 4215798
Abstract: A double-walled container having spaced-apart inner and outer wall members enclosing a sealed insulation space, with at least a portion of the wall members being formed of a polymeric thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene and polychlortrifluoroethylene, uncoated with any permeation barrier coatings, so as to be gas permeable. A mass of pelletized adsorbent is disposed in the insulation space in thermal contact with the inner wall member. The introduction of cryogenic liquid to the container effects cooling of the inner wall member and adsorbent in thermal contact therewith, thereby causing increased adsorption of gas in the insulation space by the adsorbent for reduction of pressure therein and enhancement of the insulation quality of the insulation space.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 15, 1979
Date of Patent: August 5, 1980
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Michael F. Patterson, Arun Acharya
