  • Publication number: 20060034213
Abstract: One illustrative method for use in efficiently establishing a data connection, such as a Packet Data Protocol (PDP) Context, between a mobile station and a wireless communication network includes the steps of causing at least one data connection request to be transmitted to the wireless network in attempt to establish a data connection between the mobile station and the wireless network; setting a delay timer to an initial value and running the delay timer; if the data connection has not been established in response to transmitting the at least one data connection request, causing at least one subsequent data connection request to be transmitted after expiration of the delay timer set to the initial value; setting the delay timer to a subsequent initial value which is greater than the initial value and running the delay timer; and if the data connection has not been established in response to transmitting the at least one subsequent data connection request, causing at least one other subsequent data connectio

  • Patent number: 6996131
Abstract: Using an initial channel, it is indicated that a message is to be delivered over at least a further channel. The initial and further channels are each comprised of at least one time slot. An initial bit value is assigned to an initial portion of the time slot of the initial channel. After assigning the initial bit value, it is determined whether a corresponding portion of the further channel is available for the message. A further bit value is assigned to a further portion of the time slot of the initial channel. The further bit value is indicative of a result of the determination.

  • Publication number: 20060003740
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a mobile station includes a wireless transceiver which operates with a wireless communication network; a processor; memory coupled to the processor; and a user interface which includes a Push-To-Talk (PTT) switch for transmitting a PTT voice communication through the wireless transceiver, a PTT replay switch for replaying a PTT voice communication previously received through the wireless transceiver which is stored in the memory, and a speaker for outputting audible voice signals. The wireless transceiver is operative to receive a PTT key message; receive voice data of a PTT voice communication following the PTT key message; and receive a PTT dekey message following the voice data. The processor is operative to cause the voice data of the PTT voice communication to be recorded in the memory based on receiving the PTT key message, and cause the recording of voice data of the PTT voice communication to be terminated based on receiving the PTT dekey message.

  • Publication number: 20050192034
Abstract: A method and system are provided for paging a mobile device in the intersection of logical areas of two or more different subsystems using information indicative of the logical areas of each subsystem in which the mobile device is likely located. In some embodiments, only those cells which belong to at least two of the different logical areas in which the mobile device is likely located are used to page the mobile device. In some embodiments, the intersection area is used to provide paging access to a first network on which a mobile is not active, by sending a first network page or a request to listen for the page over the second network.

  • Publication number: 20050124364
Abstract: In a push-to-talk device having two processors where one of said processors is a radio chip and one of said processors is a microprocessor, a method and apparatus for synchronizing said microprocessor and said radio chip comprising the steps of: checking the status of a radio push-to-talk key on said radio chip when a user push-to-talk button is turned on or off on said microprocessor; if said user push-to-talk button is on and said radio push-to-talk key is off, performing the steps of: sending a command to said radio chip to turn on said radio push-to-talk key; and waiting for a response from said radio chip, and if said response indicates said radio push-to-talk key is on, remaining in this synchronized state, otherwise repeating said sending and waiting steps; if said user button is off and said radio push-to-talk key is on, performing the steps of: sending a command to said radio chip to turn off said radio push-to-talk key; and waiting for a response from said radio chip, and if said response indicates

  • Publication number: 20040046794
Abstract: A user interface for a mobile device includes an input sensor having one degree of freedom operable by the user to generate a sensor signal, a screen having a two-dimensional surface showing a graphical user interface object, a processor coupled to the sensor and to the screen to actuate the graphical user interface object along the two actuated axis, and a sensor adapter software module executed by the processor to adapt the sensor signal to actuate the graphical user interface object along both actuated axis. The adapter software module selectively drives the sensor signal to actuate the graphical user interface object along the first actuated axis, to actuate the graphical user interface object along the second actuated axis, and to change actuated axis.
