  • Patent number: 8364559
Abstract: A shared “universal” virtual shopping cart (“the cart”) may be provided by a host to enable information sharing between multiple disparate electronic marketplaces provided by various merchants. The host may obtain user information via the cart to improve interactions with a user. The host may recommend an item to the user that is offered at a lower price and related to an item retained in the user's cart. The host may also recommend items based on a user's purchase history, such as complementary items (e.g., up-sell items) and items other users may recommend. In some aspects, the host may compile best selling lists based on data from multiple electronic marketplaces. The host may also perform user specific operations such as indicate an item in a cart is a duplicate of a previous purchase and monitor a price and/or available quantities of an item in the cart.

  • Patent number: 8356599
Abstract: The invention provides intrafallopian devices and non-surgical methods for their placement to prevent conception. The efficacy of the device is enhanced by forming the structure at least in part from copper or copper alloy. The device is anchored within the fallopian tube by a lumen-traversing region of the resilient structure which has helical outer surface, together with a portion of the resilient structure which is biased to form a bent secondary shape, the secondary shape having a larger cross-section than the fallopian tube. The resilient structure is restrained in a straight configuration and transcervically inserted within the fallopian tube, where it is released. Optionally, permanent sterilizations effected by passing a current through there resilisent structure to the tubal walls.

  • Patent number: 8359389
Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for monitoring application program resource consumption. Information that identifies consumption, by multiple computing devices and at requests of a particular application program, of resources that correspond to the computing devices is accessed. Each of the multiple computing devices provided a portion of the information. The accessed information is analyzed by a computing system to determine one or more values that identify consumption of the resources by at least a subset of the computing devices. An indicium that illustrates the one or more values is provided for display on a particular computing device and in cooperation with a display of a network-accessible application program software marketplace. The application program software marketplace provides application program software for execution by the particular computing device and other computing devices.

  • Publication number: 20130019029
Abstract: Lossless compression of a data stream having mixed data types, including a method for receiving a data stream that includes a plurality of different types of bit groups. Bit groups of at least two different types are extracted from the data stream to form a sub-stream. Circular shifts of the sub-stream are generated and then sorted into a sorted list of circular shifts. A transformed string that includes a bit group from each of the circular shifts is extracted from the sorted list of circular shifts. A location in the transformed string of a bit group from a pre-determined location in the sub-stream is identified. The transformed string is partitioned between the at least two different types of bit groups into transformed string partitions, and the transformed string partitions are compressed to form compressed transformed string partitions. The compressed transformed string partitions and the location are output.

  • Publication number: 20130018889
Abstract: A method for receiving a data stream that includes data samples, each data sample having one of a plurality of actual values. For each data sample in the data stream, a first index in a dictionary is selected. The dictionary includes indices corresponding to each of the plurality of actual values. The first index corresponds to an actual value of the data sample. A predicted value of the data sample is generated in response to previously received data samples in the data stream and to a prediction algorithm. A second index in the dictionary that corresponds to an actual value in the dictionary that is closest to the value of the predicted value is selected. The difference between the first index and the second index is calculated and compressed. The compressed difference between the first index and the second index is then output. This process is performed for each data sample in the data stream.

  • Publication number: 20130018649
Abstract: A system and method are described for generating semantically similar sentences for a statistical language model. A semantic class generator determines for each word in an input utterance a set of corresponding semantically similar words. A sentence generator computes a set of candidate sentences each containing at most one member from each set of semantically similar words. A sentence verifier grammatically tests each candidate sentence to determine a set of grammatically correct sentences semantically similar to the input utterance. Also note that the generated semantically similar sentences are not restricted to be selected from an existing sentence database.

  • Publication number: 20130018835
Abstract: Programmable Intelligent Search Memory (PRISM) architecture provides capabilities for high performance content search. This architecture creates an innovative memory that can be programmed with content search rules which are used by the memory to evaluate presented content for matching with the programmed rules. When the content being searched matches any of the rules in the PRISM, action(s) associated with the matched rule(s) are taken. Content search rules comprise regular expressions which are converted to finite state automata and then programmed in PRISM for evaluating content with the search rules. PRISM architecture comprises of a plurality of PRISM clusters (PMC) which comprise a plurality of PRISM Search Engines. Groups of PMCs can be programmed with the same rules and used in parallel to apply these rules to multiple data streams simultaneously to achieve increased performance. PMC groups provide 10 Gbps performance with 10 PMC groups enabling 100 Gbps content search and security performance.

  • Publication number: 20130013860
Abstract: Memory cell presetting for improved performance including a method for using a computer system to identify a region in a memory. The region includes a plurality of memory cells characterized by a write performance characteristic that has a first expected value when a write operation changes a current state of the memory cells to a desired state of the memory cells and a second expected value when the write operation changes a specified state of the memory cells to the desired state of the memory cells. The second expected value is closer than the first expected value to a desired value of the write performance characteristic. The plurality of memory cells in the region are set to the specified state, and the data is written into the plurality of memory cells responsive to the setting.

  • Publication number: 20130008962
Abstract: A label for enabling verification of an object includes a scannable region that enables determination of auto-acquired unique spatial orientation of the scannable region with respect to a reference thereby enabling determination of a spatial orientation of the label with respect to the reference. The label is applied onto the object and a change in the spatial orientation of the label indicates tampering of the label, thereby enabling verification of the object. Further, a method for detecting tampering of an object includes providing label on the object. The label has at least a portion which is scannable region with a plurality of patterns and is associated with an external reference point. Further, the method includes determining a first and a second spatial orientations of the label based on computation between the patterns and the reference point, and generating an alert on noticing a change between first and second spatial orientations.

  • Patent number: 8352839
Abstract: Encoding data into constrained memory using a method for writing data that includes receiving write data to be encoded into a write word, receiving constraints on symbol values associated with the write word, encoding the write data into the write word, and writing the write word to a memory. The encoding includes: representing the write data and the constraints as a first linear system in a first field of a first size; embedding the first linear system into a second linear system in a second field of a second size, the second size larger than the first size; solving the second linear system in the second field resulting in a solution; and collapsing the solution into the first field resulting in the write word, the write word satisfying the constraints on symbol values associated with the write word.

  • Patent number: 8352832
Abstract: An error correction code includes a separate error code portion for each of two or more separate burst erasure durations (or burst error durations). For each burst erasure duration, the code can be employed to recover from the burst erasure with a different delay time. Each error code portion has a particular parameter for burst duration (B) and delay (T), meaning that the code can be used to recover from a burst erasure of duration B with delay T. Each error code portion is based on separating the source symbols into sub-symbols and diagonally interleaving the sub-symbols based on the (B,T) parameters for the error code portion. Accordingly, different burst erasures are recovered from with different delays.
