  • Publication number: 20120226962
Abstract: Storing data in memory using wear-focusing techniques for improved endurance. A method for storing the data includes receiving write data to be written into a memory that is logically divided into a plurality of regions. The plurality of regions includes a first region and a second region that are implemented by the same memory technology. The memory is subject to degradation as a result of write operations. The write data is classified as dynamic data or static data. The write data is encoded using a first type of encoding in response to the write data being classified as dynamic. The write data encoded using the first type of encoding is stored in the first region of the memory. The write data is encoded using a second type of encoding and stored in the second region of the memory in response to classifying the write data as static data.

  • Publication number: 20120222683
Abstract: Contraceptive methods, systems, and devices generally improve the ease, speed, and reliability with which a contraceptive device can be deployed transcervically into an ostium of a fallopian tube. The contraceptive device may remain in a small profile configuration while a sheath is withdrawn proximally, and is thereafter expanded to a large profile configuration engaging the surrounding tissues, by manipulating one or more actuators of a proximal handle with a single hand. This leaves the other hand free to manipulate a hysteroscope, minimizing the number of health care professional required to deploy the contraceptive device.

  • Patent number: 8259606
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving reverse-link performance by using differentiated reverse activity bits (RABs) based on mobile-station revision. In an embodiment, an access node provides wireless service to first and second mutually exclusive sets of access terminals, the first operating according to IS-856, Release 0, the second according to IS-856, Revision A. The access node maintains first and second RAB thresholds, and periodically (a) measures reverse noise rise (RNR), (b) compares the RNR to the first and second thresholds, (c) transmits a first RAB to the first set of access terminals, and (d) transmits a second RAB to the second set of access terminals. The first RAB is set when the measured RNR exceeds the first threshold, and clear when it does not. The second RAB is set when the measured RNR exceeds the second RAB threshold, and clear when it does not.

  • Patent number: 8259486
Abstract: A write boost circuit provides an automatic mode control for boost with different modalities with respect to the external supply voltage and also with respect to the extent of boost required at different process corners. The write boost circuit also takes care of the minimum boost provided to process corners with good writability where less boost is required. The boost is realized in terms of ground raising in the particular context and in general applicable to all other methods.

  • Publication number: 20120216817
Abstract: The invention provides intrafallopian devices and non-surgical methods for their placement to prevent conception. The efficacy of the device is enhanced by forming the structure at least in part from copper or copper alloy. The device is anchored within the fallopian tube by a lumen-traversing region of the resilient structure which has helical outer surface, together with a portion of the resilient structure which is biased to form a bent secondary shape, the secondary shape having a larger cross-section than the fallopian tube. The resilient structure is restrained in a straight configuration and transcervically inserted within the fallopian tube, where it is released. Optionally, permanent sterilization is effected by passing a current through there resilisent structure to the tubal walls.

  • Publication number: 20120213353
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques that provide enhanced wireline services at one or more known wireline locations. In some cases, these tools and techniques involve determining that a subscriber is at one or more of the known wireline locations based on a detected location of the subscriber's wireless device (e.g., wireless phone, portable computer, etc.). Once the subscriber's presence at that wireline location has been detected, enhanced services can be provided to a wireline telephone at that location.

  • Publication number: 20120213827
Abstract: A process for controlling the crystallization of certain hydrophobic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from a supercooled liquid state by hot-melt extrusion processing is described. Also described is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a solid crystalline dispersion of a cholesterol ester transfer protein inhibitor in a hydrophilic excipient matrix. In the process of the present invention, the API is fed to an extrusion system in a crystalline state contemporaneously with carrier excipients where it is first converted to a non-crystalline state by the application of heat and then subsequently recrystallized in-situ by the removal of heat and application of shear. Recrystallization of the API is controlled by carrier formulation design and the hot-melt extrusion process parameters; i.e. barrel temperature profile, feed rate, etc.

  • Publication number: 20120211318
Abstract: A real-time continuous damping module includes a flow channel that is configured to allow fluid to flow between a first chamber and a second chamber of a cylindrical tubular member when a pressurizing device exerts a pressure on the fluid within the first chamber. A variable damper assembly is configured to control a flow of fluid through the flow channel. The variable damper assembly includes a damper configured to variably obstruct an opening of the flow channel. A magnetic shape memory element is configured to variably control a position of the damper within the opening of the flow channel. The magnetic shape memory element exhibits changes in shape when exposed to a magnetic field. An electromagnetic device regulates the magnetic field for variably controlling the position of the damper within the flow channel by changing the shape of the magnetic shape memory element.

  • Patent number: 8249641
Abstract: During a communication session, a first BTS transmits a first forward link signal that is received by a first mobile station, a second BTS transmits a second forward link signal that is received by a second mobile station, the first mobile station transmits a first reverse link signal that is received by the first BTS, and the second mobile station transmits a second reverse link signal that is received by the second BTS. One or more control parameters for the forward and/or reverse link signals are selected based on a receiver sensitivity of the first mobile station and/or second mobile station. In one example, a target error rate of the first reverse link signal and a maximum transmit power level of the second forward link signal are selected based on the receiver sensitivity of the second mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8249546
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for improving access to emergency services via a communication system including a shared wireless communications medium. A requesting wireless communications device receives dialed digits matching a predetermined dialed destination associated with an emergency contact and attempts to place a call to the dialed destination. Responsive to a failure of the attempt to place the call and to the matching, the requesting wireless communications device broadcasts a signal to cause at least one nearby wireless communications device to release at least a portion of communication system resources currently in use so as to thereby allow the released communication system resources to be subsequently used by the requesting wireless communications device. The requesting wireless communications device may then re-attempt the call with improved chances of connecting in light of the released resources.
