Abstract: A method includes identifying one or more second digital subscriber lines from one or more first digital subscriber lines based on historical performance data. The one or more second digital subscriber lines are identified based on degraded performance that is determined using first performance information for the one or more first digital subscriber lines. The method includes applying a line profile to the one or more second digital subscriber lines. The method includes storing second performance information associated with the one or more second digital subscriber lines. The method includes sending information to a remote computing device.

Abstract: Customer communications can be controlled in accordance with customized rules. An initial menu includes options to modify an existing rule or create a new rule for controlling customer communications. An initial selection criteria menu includes options to indicate whether the new customized rule will be built using a preexisting template or starting from initial blank rule criteria. A list of preexisting templates for creating new customized rules can be provided, and input to populate a selected template can be accepted. Initial blank rule criteria for creating new customized rules can also be provided, including initial criteria and rule conditions for selected initial criteria. Communications are processed in accordance with the stored new customized rule.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products that automatically control the installation of software applications on a device are provided. The installation of a software application on a device is detected. The installation is temporarily halted and information about the detected software application installation is collected. A danger level of the detected software application is assessed based upon the collected information. Installation of the detected software application is allowed to continue if the assessed danger level is below a threshold level and installation of the detected software application is terminated if the assessed danger level is above the threshold level.

Abstract: Example methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to perform root cause analysis for network events are disclosed. An example method includes retrieving a symptom event instance from a normalized set of data sources based on a symptom event definition; generating a set of diagnostic events from the normalized set of data sources which potentially cause the symptom event instance, the diagnostic events being determined based on dependency rules; and analyzing the set of diagnostic events to select a root cause event based on root cause rules.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for a timeslot teleconference. A meeting invite is created for a timeslot teleconference on a computer. Timeslots are created for the timeslot teleconference in the meeting invite on the computer. Participants are designated for the timeslots in the meeting invite on the computer, and the timeslots are different time periods during the timeslot teleconference, which can have variable start and end times, as determined by a host. Reach numbers are added for each of the participants in the meeting invite on the computer, and the reach numbers are contact numbers to call the participants for their respective timeslots. The meeting invite is transmitted to participants on the computer. To participate in the timeslot teleconference, the timeslot teleconference is configured for the reach numbers to be called for the participants to correspond to their respective timeslots and/or the participants to call in for their respective timeslots.

Abstract: A system includes a network entry point configured to receive and process internet protocol (IP) based connection requests originating from outside the communications network, and a telephone number mapping (ENUM) database configured to store a uniform resource identifier (URI) of the network entry point and to respond to a request for routing information for a subscriber terminal within the communications network received from a remote entity outside the communications network by providing a naming authority pointer resource (NAPTR) record including the URI of the network entry point to the remote entity in response to the request for routing information.

Abstract: Gestures allow selection and alteration of media files. A video file is graphically illustrated on a touch sensitive display. A gesture input is received at a point of contact on the touch sensitive display and ends with disengagement of the touch sensitive display. A vector is determined from the point of contact to the disengagement of the touch sensitive display. The video file is then modified in response to the vector.

Abstract: A portable signal testing system includes a transmitter, a first dynamically tunable receiver, a second dynamically tunable receiver, a first indicator and a second indicator. The transmitter transmits over a wired communications link a first signal having a corresponding first frequency representative of a first frequency range of the wired communications link, and transmits over the wired communications link a second signal having a corresponding second frequency representative of a second frequency range of the wired communications link. Signal losses for the first signal and second signal are measured, and indicators indicate whether the signal losses are acceptable.

Abstract: Example methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to manipulate packet routing are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes receiving a first route advertisement from a first provider edge router, the first route advertisement including next-hop routing information associated with a destination and a label associated with an interface of the first provider edge router; modifying the next-hop routing information to form first modified next-hop routing information, the first modified next-hop routing information to redirect a packet addressed to the destination; and sending a second route advertisement to a second provider edge router, the second route advertisement including the first modified next-hop routing information and the label.

Abstract: A resilient load balancing method uses fixed paths and a fixed path-splitting strategy to enable ingress routers to efficiently reroute traffic after a failure. An off-line management system computes a set of fixed paths and a set of splitting ratios for routing demand from ingress routers to egress routers, with sufficient capacity to meet demands under each failure scenario. That data is then used by the ingress router to reroute demand after observing a failure.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to manage conference calls are described. An example method includes classifying participants of the conference call in a hierarchy according to respective priority values; detecting an attempt of a participants to speak at a same time; detecting which one of the participants has a lower priority ranking; blocking an audio signal of the one of the participants having the lower priority ranking; placing an identifier associated with the blocked one of the participants in a queue; organizing the queue according to a behavior-based policy by comparing an utterance of a current speaker to a keyword associated with the conference call to determine a relevancy of the utterance; and increasing a point total associated with the current speaker in response to determining that the utterance is substantially relevant, and decreasing the point total associated with the current speaker in response to determining that the utterance is substantially irrelevant.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing subscription data are described. Subscription data may be received from a subscription data source. The video content may be provided for presentation. A determination may be made of whether the subscription data is contextually relevant to the video content. The subscription data may be provided for presentation in accordance with the determination and the providing of the video content.

Abstract: A tangible computer-readable storage medium is encoded with an executable computer program for routing international communications. When executed, the processor performs operations including receiving, from an international gateway via a network node, international communication origination data for an international communication to a customer's communication address. Customer routing instructions are received from the customer via a web server and are stored. The received customer routing instructions are retrieved and a determination is made of a first destination communication address based on the international communication origination data and the retrieved customer routing instructions. The first destination communication address is forwarded to the network node for routing the international communication to the destination communication address.

Abstract: Location-blocking and identity-blocking services that can be commercially offered by a service promoter, e.g., a cellular service provider or a web advertiser. In the identity-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the current physical location of a mobile subscriber (i.e., a cellular phone operator) to a third party (e.g., a web advertiser) subscribing to the identity-blocking service. However, the service promoter may not send any identity information for the mobile subscriber to the third party. On the other hand, in the location-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the mobile subscriber's identity information to the third party, but not the current physical location of the mobile subscriber. Blocking of the mobile subscriber's identity or location information may be desirable for privacy reasons, to comply with a government regulation, or to implement a telecommunication service option selected by the mobile subscriber.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a control message that identifies a first video conference terminal as an active talker. The method includes sending, in response to the control message, outgoing video conference data from the first video conference terminal via a first multicast group to two or more video conference terminals joined to the first multicast group. The method also includes sending a command to join a second multicast group in response to the control message.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a switched voice alarm on a switched and/or Internet Protocol (IP) network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alarm associated with a switched voice service, and retrieves a Local Routing Number (LRN) or Primary Inter-exchange Carrier (PIC) information from a switch serving a call associated with a caller's telephone number. The method determines if the alarm is due to one or more service degradations, and notifies a work center responsible for one or more of the service degradations if the alarm is due to the one or more service degradations.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting emergency messages is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device, of a communication system, having a controller element to send a selection of types of emergency alert messages to be transmitted to one or more associates of a subscriber corresponding to the communication device; and receive an emergency alert message of a public emergency alert system for a zone of coverage, wherein the subscriber is in the zone of coverage and wherein the emergency alert message is transmitted to one or more associate communication devices of each of the one or more associates according to the selection of types of emergency alert messages to be transmitted. In one embodiment, a method for providing a social network includes receiving a request from a first user of the social network to provide information from a location of interest specified by the first user, and locating a group comprising at least one other user of the social network, where each of the at least one other user is currently at the location of interest and has volunteered to provide information from the location of interest, wherein the group is selected from a larger group of other users who are at a plurality of locations of interest.

Abstract: Integrated voice and data services are provided that utilize wired cordless access with unlicensed/unregulated connectivity sources. A digital cordless telephone operates over unlicensed/unregulated spectrum in conjunction with one or more wireless access points (WAPs) that are installed in homes, businesses, entertainment venues, and the like. The WAPs are connected to a communications service provider's broadband packet data network. A user may use the device when they are in range of another wireless access point in a public or private building that also is connected to their communications service provider's broadband packet data network.

Abstract: A cellular-based live traffic service that does not require pre-deployment of infrastructure or GPS-enabled devices uses signals provided by cellular devices to determine course resolution localization and tracking information of the cellular devices. Specialized statistical analysis is performed on the course resolution data to infer the fine resolution positions of the cellular devices. In an example embodiment, the localization and tracking information is provided on a map, or the like, to show relative position and/or trajectory of cellular devices.
