Abstract: A system and method for automatically managing the storage of data in a storage service provider's (SSP's) storage system in compliance with regulatory requirements receives a request from a user for storing the user's data at the SSP. The SSP provides an interface which gathers information from the user and determines relevant regulations and data classes for the user's data. Based on the gathered information, the SSP issues a request for data management parameters corresponding to the determined regulation and data class from a data management regulation site. The SSP receives the relevant data management parameters and allocates storage space for storing the user's data in accordance with the data management parameters received from the data management regulation site. Additionally, if a regulation relevant to the user's data is changed or updated, the invention provides the user with the option of automatically migrating the user's data to the updated parameters.

Abstract: The Storage Management System includes a client host, storage device, and storage management server configured to provide virtualized storage topology. The storage management server holds information on both the physical topology of the devices and the virtualized system configuration. In addition, the storage management server holds status information indicating whether each element is shown virtually or physically. The server creates latest topology data to be drawn from its physical topology and virtualized configuration according to the status above that indicates which topology must be shown in each portion of the system. Thereafter, the server draws created topology on the screen. The user is enabled to switch between the physical and virtual representations, which prompts the server to redraw Status of each portion are able to switch to the other by user so that after redraw process has done the specified potion will be shown in other perspective.

Abstract: A storage system includes a client host, a storage device, and a separate data search appliance. The client software executing on the client host composes a query and sends a data search request to the storage device. The storage device passes the received query to the connected data search appliance. The search appliance invokes search process to find search candidates using meta information of the data stored in the storage device. Upon the completion of the search process, the search appliance returns the identified search results to the storage device. Upon receipt of the search results from the search appliance, the storage device passes them to the client. At the same time, the storage device pre-fetches the actual data which corresponds to the search results into its cache memory to ensure fast future retrieval.

Abstract: Document management system and method for storing documents having a first storage device storing user-viewable portal data and a second storage device storing document body data and a metadata table storing information and correspondence relationships between the portal and body data for each document. The first and second storage devices have different characteristics. For example, the first storage device may have a higher data access speed than the second storage device. The document management system further includes a storage device manager which allocates storage areas for the data in various storage devices and a document manager, which causes the portal data to be stored in the first storage device and the body data to be stored in the second storage device. The document manager also adds a respective record of the stored portal data and the stored body data into a metadata table of a corresponding document container.

A computer system according to this invention includes: a storage system having plural disks and a disk array control unit; and a management device having a control unit that uses a jobnet to manage the storage system. In the computer system, the control unit obtains data corresponding to an identifier of a resource that is included in the jobnet, converts the jobnet into an executable format by rewriting and substituting the identifier with a display name or attribute of the resource, and registers an association between a jobnet identifier and a resource identifier in a database.
