  • Patent number: 5777330
Abstract: Infrared spectroscopy for rapidly identifying the kind of a plastic product on the spot. The surface of the plastic product is partially pyrolyzed in a quite short time to produce pyrolysis product gas. The gas is introduced into an infrared spectrophotometer to obtain an infrared absorption spectrum of the gas. The spectrum is collated with a pyrolysis infrared absorption spectrum of a standard sample. Thus, the plastic is identified. A heating probe comprising a heat radiation emitter mounted in the body of the probe, an opening formed in the body of the probe, an aperture formed in the body and located opposite to the opening, a reflecting mirror for directing the radiation into the opening, and a conduit for connecting thin ports in the probe with the spectrophotometer and with an external carrier gas source. The heat radiation emitter emits heat radiation for pyrolyzing the surface of the plastic product. The mirror is located near the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5657433
Abstract: An information processing system includes a device for recording data, a device for generating browsing data, a device for storing the browsing data and data in association with each other, and a device for displaying the browsing data. Corresponding data are retrieved from the displayed browsing data. When the data is non-visible such as audio data, a still image input unit or a video input device is used to create browsing data. Also, upon creation, updating or deletion of data, the browsing data are automatically created, updated or deleted respectively. When the data is AV data, browsing data is created based on the information detected by a scene change point detector and a volume detector.

  • Patent number: 5379446
Abstract: A cellular radio system comprises a plurality of basic stations each having a radio transceiver serving a cell of the system. A mobile station of the invention has a radio transceiver for communicating with one or other of the base stations, as well as long term averaging units (LTA.sub.0, LTA.sub.1, LTA.sub.N) for time averaging handover criterion (HOC) measurements over a first averaging period. The mobile station also includes a summer (S.sub.N) for applying a first hysteresis margin to the time averaged HOC measurements to provide a first handover indicator. The mobile station also includes short term averaging units (STA.sub.0, STA.sub.1, STA.sub.N) for time averaging HOC measurements over a second averaging period which is relatively short compared to the first averaging period, as well as a summer (S.sub.W) for applying a second hysteresis margin, which is relatively large compared to the first hysteresis margin, to the time averaged HOC measurements to provide a second handover indicator.
