  • Patent number: 5904771
Abstract: A method of subliming material is provided for use in a CVD film preparation method wherein a CVD precursor is sublimed from its solid state by heating to a temperature not exceeding its melting point, thereby producing a vapor of the precursor, and the vapor of the precursor is transported to a reactor. The method of subliming material comprises the steps of forming the solid-state compound into a film, covering a back surface of the film with a non-reactive support and exposing a front surface of the film to an atmosphere as a sublimation surface. The method maintains the exposed surface area of the solid compound constant during processing.

  • Patent number: 5722184
Abstract: A method for feeding metalorganic gas from solid raw materials in MOCVD and its device provides an absorption reagent consisting of porous grains into which a solid metalorganic material is absorbed and the passing of the carrier gas among the absorptive porous grains in the container under a high thermal condition. The mixture gas including the metalorganic gas at a constant density is obtained in stability for a long time.

  • Patent number: 5521750
Abstract: A wavelength converting element comprises; an X or Y-out substrate made of lithium tantalate crystal or lithium niobate crystal having a major surface containing a Z-axis of the crystal; polarization inversion layers formed the major surface each extending in the Z-axis and treated by applying an electric field of direct current to the substrate wherein the electric field of direct current contains a field component toward an inverse direction of the Z-axis intersecting at an angle of .theta. in a range of 0.degree.<.theta.<90.degree.

  • Patent number: 5512383
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a wavelength converting element forms an optical waveguide having a substantially uniform thickness and a desired size. A thin film of lithium niobate is formed on a substrate of lithium tantalate, and a mask corresponding to an optical waveguide is formed on the thin film. A proton exchange is performed on a predetermined area of the thin film through the mask. A potassium ion exchange is further performed on the proton-exchanged area, thus yielding the optical waveguide. The mode of light that propagates in the optical waveguide can be set to a low-order mode, so that the efficiency of converting the incident light to the second harmonic is improved.

  • Patent number: 5382334
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for forming a polarization inversion layer which can form a periodic metal pattern on one major surface of a substrate and can easily form a fine periodic domain inversion structure. According to this process for forming polarization inversion layer, before or after the step of forming a three-dimensional waveguide, plural pairs of ground anodes and voltage-applying cathodes are formed at predetermined intervals, each pair sandwiching the three-dimensional waveguide along the extending direction thereof, facing each other, and set apart from each other, on one major surface of the substrate parallel to an axial direction where polarization inversion easily occurs, an electron beam is irradiated to the cathodes with the anodes grounded to thereby form a plurality of polarization inversion layers along the extending direction of the three-dimensional waveguide.

  • Patent number: 5168489
Abstract: A recorded data reader is provided with a light source for emitting a beam of light and with a photosensitive means. A polarized beam splitter incorporates an interface developed between a titanium diffused region and a proton exchanged region, formed by treating one region of a titanium diffused layer for proton exchange. Both regions are arranged on a substrate of lithium niobate material. Also, a collimator lens, a surface wave electrode, and a grating lens are embedded in the same substrate, thus forming a transmitting and separating arrangement, which transmits the light beam emitted by the light source and which separates a return beam of light originating from a recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5136775
Abstract: In a magnetic head comprising a magnetic core formed by joining core halves of metal magnetic material, wear-resistant films are formed on both sides of the magnetic core in such a manner that they are located at both ends of the operating gaps in the tape slide surface of the magnetic head, with non-magnetic films arranged between the magnetic core and the wear-resistant films, whereby the magnetic head is high in wear resistance and can be manufactured with high efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5113299
Abstract: A magnetic head according to the present invention comprises two halves of magnetic core which are put together with a spacer for forming a magnetic gap between the two halves. The two havles are bonded together by charging glass into grooves near the magnetic gap to form a core block. A thin film is deposited to an area near the gap spacer, or to the area near the gap spacer and an surface of the gap spacer and the glass is charged on the thin film, thereby improving wettability by the glass.
