    Abstract: Systems and methods for emulating the bridging of control packets of a first network through a second network. Control packets may be Ethernet control packets instantiating a stream through the emulated bridge. One such protocol is the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.1Q protocol. One second network may be a MoCA 2.0 network or a Power Line Communication (PLC) network or any other suitable network. Control packets may be encapsulated as unicast packets according the second network and sent to a control plane node. The encapsulated unicast packets may be indentified and decapsulated by the control plane node. The control plane node may verify access to resources required by the control packet of the emulated bridge. The control plane may send encapsulated packets to the egress nodes of the second network that have sufficient resources to satisfy the control packet requirements.

The entry node may not be aware which node of the plurality of nodes is the node selected for supporting the advanced service on the network. The selected fields may include vendor specific fields. The method may further include distributing the query message to the plurality of nodes. In response to the query message, the method may further include determining which of the plurality of nodes can be selected for supporting the advanced service on the network.

    Abstract: An apparatus and methods for transmitting information over a home coax network are provided. A method according to the invention for transmitting information over a home coax network preferably includes adding a multicast transmission mode to a system that previously only had unicast transmission mode and broadcast mode. The method preferably includes broadcasting multicast (“MC”) traffic. The MC traffic may be directed to a predetermined MC group. The MC traffic may be transmitted from an ingress node to a plurality of egress nodes. A portion of the plurality of egress nodes may belong to the MC group. Upon receipt by at least one of the egress nodes of the MC traffic, the method may further include using the at least one egress node to filter the received MC traffic to determine whether the MC traffic is directed to a group for which the egress node is a member.

One method according to the invention includes, in a home network having a plurality of network modules, one of said plurality of network modules being a network controller, each of said plurality of network modules being connected to a coax backbone, communicating over the coax backbone between the plurality of network modules. The method further includes using the master module to receive requests sent over the coax backbone from the plurality of network modules for bandwidth to transmit bursts. The master module may establish an order of transmission opportunities for the plurality of network modules to follow when transmitting bursts directly to other network modules via the coax backbone. The method may also include using the master module to toggle each of the networked modules between a running power state and a standby power state.
