Patent number: 6044730Abstract: A ratchet wrench including a handle, a drive stud, and a ratchet mechanism further includes a tool release mechanism. The tool release mechanism includes a tool release actuator which forms a recess. A reversing lever is coupled to the ratchet mechanism and is movable to forward, non-ratcheting and reverse positions to select a forward ratchet direction, a non-ratcheting action, and a reverse ratchet direction, respectively, for the ratchet mechanism. The direction control element carries a protruding element that is shaped to fit into a recess in the tool release actuator when the direction control element is in the forward position, to remain outside the recess when the direction control element is in the non-ratcheting position, and to fit into the recess when the direction control element is in the reverse position. The protruding element impedes inadvertent operation of the tool release mechanism when the direction control mechanism is in either the forward or the reverse positions.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1998Date of Patent: April 4, 2000Assignee: JODA Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Peter M. Roberts, John B. Davidson

Patent number: 5978790Abstract: An apparatus and method for restructuring a database modeled by an edge-labeled tree. Portions of an output tree is generated by matching patterns of tree elements of a starting tree. Portions of the output tree are combined to form a complete output tree which may be restructured again until a final output tree presents a desired "view" of the starting database. If the pattern matches used in restructuring the starting tree is restricted to attributes of tree elements that only includes preceding edge information, successive tree restructuring may be composed into a single restructuring process that optimizes the restructuring by taking advantage of restructuring results of each of the original restructuring processes.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Peter Buneman, Susan B. Davidson, Dan Suciu

Patent number: 5966905Abstract: A package of a continuous strip of material includes a plurality of parallel side by side stacks each containing a length of the strip, which is folded back and forth such that each folded portion of the stack is folded relative to the next portion about a line transverse to the strip and such that the side edges of the strip portions are aligned. The strip is continuous through each stack and can be connected by a splice from the end of one stack to beginning of the next stack. The package is compressed to reduce the height of the stacks and maintained in the compressed condition by an evacuated sealed bag. The package can have the stacks oriented vertically or horizontally. When the stacks are horizontal, the spliced portions are vertical and coplanar with the strips and at alternate ends. When the stacks are vertical, the spliced portions extend from the bottom of the stack along one end of the stack to the top of the next stack.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Stac-Pac Technologies Inc.Inventors: Lawrence J. O'Connor, Mark B. Davidson, Darrell Van Mol

Patent number: 5956926Abstract: A package of a continuous strip of material includes a plurality of parallel side by side stacks each containing a length of the strip which is folded back and forth such that each folded portion of the stack is folded relative to the next portion about a line transverse to the strip and such that the side edges of the strip portions are aligned. The strip is continuous through each stack and is connected by a splice from the end of one stack to beginning of the next stack. The package can be compressed to reduce the height of the stacks and maintained in the compressed condition by an evacuated sealed bag. The package can be formed by folding a wide web of material back and forth and by slicing the folded web in a direction parallel to the sides of the web to form one or more stacks of a strip of width less than that of the web. The stack can be used to form the above package or can be used in a further processing by unfolding slitting and winding.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignees: KT Holdings, Inc., Stac-Pac Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence J. Patent number: 5960425Abstract: A database access system responds a user database access request by restructuring a requested database based on two sets of expressions. Expressions are instructions for generating a new database from a starting database modeled as a starting edge-labeled tree by using pattern matches. Expressions always generate an edge-labeled tree allowing a sequence of expressions to be processed to restructure the starting tree. The database access system divides the database restructuring process into two sets of expressions. A first set of expressions is constructed based on subscriber requirements and a second set of expressions is constructed based on particular user requests. The first and second expressions are optimized by composition and the requested database is restructured based on the composed expression.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Peter Buneman, Susan B. Patent number: 5850066Abstract: A weld controller is coupled to a communications network which has an operator interface unit for monitoring and controlling the weld controller and other weld controllers on the network. A time of day clock provides a chronological reference to tag weld current and voltage data and other data when it occurs for storage in its memory which is also accessible by the operator interface unit for storing in said system database. A memo pad in the weld controller is also accessible to the network for storing data for diagnostic purposes, said data including faults, events, and other operational data. The data can then be displayed, edited, and stored by the operator interface's program.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1996Date of Patent: December 15, 1998Assignee: Square D CompanyInventors: Larry A. Patent number: 5660491Abstract: A socket wrench universal joint includes a socket engaging element movably mounted in the drive stud of the universal joint to engage a socket. An actuator is mounted to the universal joint for manipulation by a user, and a linking element links the actuator and the socket engaging element. The actuator allows the user to alter the socket retaining forces. In a quick release version the operator can release a socket from the drive stud of the universal joint by appropriately manipulating the actuator. In another version the user can enhance socket retaining forces by properly manipulating the actuator.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1996Date of Patent: August 26, 1997Assignee: Roberts Tool International (USA), Inc.Inventors: Peter M. Patent number: 5501125Abstract: A tool of the type having a drive stud for receiving and releasing a tool attachment includes an opening in the drive stud and a locking pin movably mounted in the opening. The opening defines upper and lower ends, and the lower end of the opening is located at a portion of the drive stud constructed for insertion into the tool attachment. The lower end of the locking pin is constructed to engage the tool attachment when the locking pin is positioned in an engaging position and to release the tool attachment when the locking pin is moved to a release position. An actuating element is movably positioned on the drive stud, and the actuating element is coupled to the locking pin to move the locking pin from the engaging to the release position as the actuating element moves along the longitudinal axis.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1994Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Assignee: Roberts Tool International (USA), Inc.Inventors: Peter M.
