  • Publication number: 20140156239
Abstract: A process for the verification and validation testing of equipment and components for drilling, completion, production and general well construction (typically such as subsurface safety valves, wellhead trees, blowout preventers and wireline pressure control equipment) to determine the suitability of such equipment for use in oil and gas wells in high pressure high temperature environments. In particular, the process of the present invention comprises, among other steps, the steps of analyzing such components using an elastic-plastic finite element model with respect to certain preset load conditions and establishing stable model convergence, conducting a ratcheting assessment by running analysis on such model on all components that exhibit local plasticity, and examining all components to determine fatigue sensitive locations and subjecting such components to a fatigue analysis.

  • Patent number: 8626967
Abstract: Described are techniques for processing requests. A request is received at a data storage system. The request is a command to perform first processing and the request is sent from a client over a virtualized path. The virtualized path includes a virtual target port of the data storage system. The virtual target port is a first physical target port that provides a virtualized counterpart port for a second physical target port whereby requests directed to the second physical target port are routed to the first physical target port rather than the second physical target port. First processing is performed and a response to the request is generated. The response includes first information consistent with sending the request over a non-virtualized path to the second physical target port. The response is sent to the client.

  • Publication number: 20130276728
Abstract: A valve for an engine cylinder includes a head. The valve is selectively moveable between a closed position in which the head blocks a port and an open position in which the head unblocks the port. A lower stem is formed as one-piece with the head, and a thermal cavity formed within the lower stem. The thermal cavity is at least partially filled with a heat transfer medium. An upper stem is attached to the lower stem opposite the head. A thermal barrier is located adjacent a junction of the lower stem and the upper stem.

  • Publication number: 20130264074
Abstract: A method and apparatus for suppressing fires in residential attics and basements. The components of one embodiment function in an integrated way so as to suppress residential attic and basement fires more safely and successfully than do traditional methods of the art of residential firefighting. Electronic messages from fire detection devices in residential attics and basements are processed so that a plurality of actions are performed in order to efficiently suppress fire in those residence spaces, thereby minimizing loss of human life and property. Actions include and are not limited to activation of emergency lighting in affected spaces, activation of surveillance camera devices to enable remote visual monitoring by responders, electronic notification of responders as to the existence and location of fire within the residence, alarm notification of occupants of the residence, and deployment of condensed aerosol agents to suppress or extinguish the residential attic or basement fire.

  • Publication number: 20120282111
Abstract: A method of controlling the output of an electrokinetic pump to deliver a target stroke volume includes applying a pump drive signal to the electrokinetic pump for a pump stroke time duration and then determining a volume of a delivery fluid pumped. Then, comparing the volume of the delivery fluid pumped to the target stroke volume; generate a new time interval for applying the pump drive signal. Then apply the pump drive signal to the electrokinetic pump for the new time interval. A system for delivery of fluid includes an electrokinetic pump under the control of an electronic controller. The electronic controller contains computer readable instructions to determine an output of the electrokinetic pump and then generate a stroke time delivery adjustment for precise pumping schemes.

  • Publication number: 20120282112
Abstract: An electrokinetic system includes a first electrokinetic pump, a second electrokinetic pump, a reservoir having delivery fluid therein, and a controller. The first electrokinetic pump is configured to provide a first range of flow rates. The second electrokinetic pump is configured to provide a second range of flow rates. The second range includes flow rates that are greater than the flow rates of the first range. The reservoir is fluidically attached to the first electrokinetic pump and the second electrokinetic pump. The controller is configured to apply voltage to one of the first or second electrokinetic pumps and then apply voltage to the other of the first or second electrokinetic pumps so as to vary the flow rate range of delivery fluid pump from the reservoir.
