  • Publication number: 20110186108
Abstract: A high efficiency multiring solar cell (MRSC) system, including a number of single-junction solar cells and utilizing a novel multiring architecture is disclosed. Sunlight from the solar concentrator illuminates a double cone prism to create spatially separated spectral bands. Projection of the spectral bands on working surfaces of solar cells creates a sequence of spatially separated spectral rings, where rings corresponding to the spectral bands with longer wavelengths are enclosed by the rings corresponding to shorter wavelengths. The number of solar cells and their shape corresponds to the number and the shape of the respective spectral rings. Each solar cell is optimized for efficiently converting the sunlight from the corresponding spectral band. A corresponding method of forming solar cells and converting sunlight into electricity are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090116149
Abstract: To provide a manufacturing method which can adjust the lengths of a recording element and a reproducing element for enabling manufacture of high-quality magnetic head sliders. The manufacturing method comprises: a stacked-layer forming step which stacks magnetic heads on a substrate; a lapping step which cuts out a bar block having a plurality of connected magnetic head sliders, and polishes a flying surface; and a slider cutting step which cuts out individual magnetic head sliders from the bar block. The stacked-layer forming step forms a reproducing-element polish amount detecting sensor on a same layer as that of the reproducing element, and forms a recording-element polish amount detecting sensor on a same layer as that of the recording element. The lapping step carries out polishing based on each output value of the reproducing-element polish amount detecting sensor and the recording-element polish amount detecting sensor.

  • Patent number: 7359152
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a thin film magnetic head in which MR height and neck height can be determined with high precision. A plurality of thin film magnetic head bars are formed so as to include a plurality of thin film magnetic head precursors, a plurality of RLG sensors for reproducing head portions, and a plurality of RLG sensors for recording head portions. While detecting electrical resistance values of resistance films by using the RLG sensors for the reproducing head portions, the thin film magnetic head bar is pre-polished. Electrical resistance values of the resistance films are detected by using both of the RLG sensors for the reproducing head portions and the RLG sensors for the recording head portions and a tilt of a polished surface of the thin film magnetic head bar is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 7189150
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for edge blending hard drive head sliders by oscillating abrasive lapping tape across the edges of multiple sliders simultaneously. Lapping tape is inserted between each of a number of head sliders bonded to a edge blending jig of an edge blending assembly. The edge blending assembly is adjusted to cause the lapping tape to partially wrap an edge of each slider. The head sliders are edge blended by the relative movement between the sliders and the lapping tape.

  • Patent number: 6888467
Abstract: A gas detection instrument comprises a combustible gas sensor and associated circuitry, which supplies power to the sensor and measures and displays resulting sensor response. The supplied power is switched between timed pulses of electricity and steady state electricity, with the intermittent electricity being employed only when no significant change in sensor output has been detected. Alternatively, timed pulses of electricity are maintained, and predictive software algorithms are used to give readings for gas concentration during interruption of the power supply. The sensor operation enables the instrument to respond to rapid changes in gas concentration while minimizing power consumption of the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6568901
Abstract: A balancing arrangement which is used to relieve or take up axial thrust in a multistage centrifugal pump, having a balancing device with at least one axial gap (8) and at least one radial gap (6,7) and in which a balancing flow is conducted through the gaps, and having an axial bearing which receives remaining axial thrust. Associated with the axial bearing is a cardanic ring (10) which serves to offset alignment errors. Highly reliable operation with only low leakage losses is achieved by configuring the balancing device such that a residual thrust in the direction of the suction side of the pump exists in all operating conditons and the cardanic ring is designed such that it is elastically deformed by the residual thrust and has a spring constant such that the axial gap (s) will close from a maximum width position when the pump is at rest to a minimum width position during operation while still avoiding contact between the surfaces which define the axial gap.
