    Abstract: Aldehyde or ketone compounds having more than one carbonyl group are reductively aminated to form a product amine compound having more than one primary amino group. The aldehyde or ketone compound is reacted with the product amine compound, to form a reaction mixture that contains one or more intermediates. The intermediate is then reductively aminated to form the desired product. This process produces the desired product in very high yields with low levels of secondary amine impurities.

  • MIXED ALCOHOL SYNTHESIS WITH ENHANCED CARBON VALUE USE

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for simplifying manufacture of a mixed alcohol or mixed oxygenate product from synthesis gas. The mixed alcohol or mixed oxygenate product contains ethanol and other oxygenates with two or more carbon atoms per molecule. The method includes stripping a portion of carbon dioxide and inert gases contained in a mixed alcohol synthesis reaction product using a methanol-containing stream, such as one produced as part of the method, as a medium to absorb said carbon dioxide and inert gases and recycling light products and heavy products to one or more of synthesis gas generation, mixed alcohol synthesis and separation of desired mixed alcohol or mixed oxygenate products from other components of a mixed alcohol synthesis stream.

More particularly, this invention provides a process for removing iodide impurities from liquid carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic acid anhydrides using ion exchange resins in which thiol functional groups have been exchanged with silver, palladium or mercury.
