  • Patent number: 6661617
Abstract: A moving-coil magnetic microactuator is formed by using a dual silicon wafer structure and thin film technologies such as deep trench reactive ion etching, reactive ion etching, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition and metallo-organinc chemical vapor deposition. Several bottom structures are formed from a bottom wafer, each bottom structure having a coil and wires embedded in the surface of the bottom structure. Several top structures are formed from a top wafer, each top structure having a magnet and mechanical stand-offs. • Patent number: 6540839
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for uniformly coating a magnet having a plurality of surfaces and includes a reaction chamber having a port for introducing the magnet into the reaction chamber. A heater is also included for heating the reaction chamber. Also, a carrier gas port is in fluid communications with the reaction chamber for introducing a carrier gas into the reaction chamber. In addition, a reactant gas port is in fluid communications with the reaction chamber for introducing a reactant gas into the reaction chamber. When the magnet and the carrier gas are introduced into the reaction chamber, the magnet becomes suspended in the reaction chamber. Also, when the reactant gas is introduced into the reaction chamber, the reactant gas causes all of the plurality of surfaces of the magnet to be uniformly coated.

  • Publication number: 20020114269
Abstract: A method and system is described for more optimally managing the usage of a wideband space-time multipath channel. The wideband space-time multipath channel is decomposed into a plurality of orthogonal sub-channels, where the orthogonal sub-channels having the best signaling characteristics are used for transmitting one or more signal streams. For purposes of decomposing the wideband space-time multipath channel into a plurality of orthogonal sub-channels, channel estimates are determined for each signal propagation path. A closed-form singular value decomposition of the channel corresponding to each receive antenna before coherent combining is utilized to obtain an orthogonal decomposition of the overall effective space-time channel after coherent combining. By using the overall effective space-time channel after coherent combining rather than before coherent combining, the complexity and correspondingly the resources required for obtaining the orthogonal sub-channels is significantly reduced.

  • Patent number: 6404776
Abstract: A multimedia communication arrangement processes and multiplexes different types of data, including data from an adaptive data rate data source and a nonadaptive data rate data source, to substantially increase data throughput over a communication channel. The rate at which data is collected from the adaptive data rate data source varies based on the available channel bandwidth of the modem. The transmission rate is optionally adjusted in response to a detected error rate. Furthermore, the amount of filtering performed by a video camera on an image before the image is encoded by a codec can be adjusted. In addition, a data recovery terminal optionally selectively adjusts intervals at which received audio data is sampled to potentially reduce latency periods.

  • Publication number: 20010045527
Abstract: This invention presents a method and system for etching a silicon substrate. This includes depositing a non-thermally cured photoresist mask on the upper region of a trench in the silicon substrate. A fluorocarbon film is deposited on the silicon substrate, and the silicon substrate is bombarded with ions. As a result, the fluorocarbon film is preferentially removed from the lower region of the trench in the substrate, and the upper region of the trench is substantially protected by the photoresist mask. This invention can include curing the photoresist mask using an electron-beam system.

  • Patent number: 5968035
Abstract: An improved dental procedure and apparatus where ultraviolet radiation pulses are used to etch selectively both hard tissue and soft tissue in dental procedures. There exists distinct ablation thresholds for hard and soft tissue which are dependent on the material being ablated for a given wavelength of the ultraviolet radiation. Sufficient differences in ablation threshold exist for enamel, dentin, and carious material, thereby allowing dentists to perform both hard tissue and soft tissue procedures without excess damage to healthy enamel, dentin or other pulp structures.
