  • Patent number: 6548294
Abstract: Apparatus suitable for use in the treatment of waste and/or organic materials which includes a main body having a treatment chamber therein having a base which when the apparatus is in a harvesting mode is arranged with a space there below. The base includes a plurality of generally parallel spaced apart support elements, the support elements being spaced apart at a distance sufficient to support the material within the chamber during the treatment process and enable extraction of the treated material through the spaces between the support elements during a harvesting process. There is also disclosed a harvesting device comprising a plurality of extraction elements which are adapted to project through the spaces between the support elements to dislodge and extract the treated material through the base. The apparatus and harvesting device is particularly useful for removing worm casting in vermiculture.

  • Publication number: 20030058924
Abstract: In a first aspect the present invention provides a method of producing an ultra wide band signal in which (I) a carrier signal is modulated by a spreading waveform which is a periodic deterministic wideband signal and (II) the frequency of the carrier signal is changed by a predetermined amount at predetermined intervals (the reciprocal of this interval being the hopping rate), wherein there is a harmonic relationship between the carrier frequency, the predetermined amount of frequency change, and the period of the spreading waveform. In this way, an ultra wide band signal is created using both direct sequence and frequency hopping techniques and the signal so created may be detected using a coherent detector at a receiver. This provides a wide bandwidth signal, or even an ‘ultra wide bandwidth’ (UWB) signal which mitigates the problems of multi-path signals (through coherent combining across a wide bandwidth) and also interference.

  • Patent number: 6241073
Abstract: Apparatus for aligning and orienting generally elongate objects of irregular shape and variable dimensions such as wood residue. The apparatus includes a plurality of spaced, rollers to transport the objects in a direction of transport from an inlet zone through a sorting zone to an outlet zone by rotation of the rollers. There are a plurality of aligning walls extending over the rollers parallel to the direction of transport from the outlet zone toward the inlet zone. There are also eccentric vanes mounted to some of the rollers to rotate with the rollers to move through the objects on the rollers. Objects introduced into the inlet zone in a generally random, entangled collection are aligned and oriented in the direction of transport into generally, parallel, stacked relationship at the outlet zone by movement over the rollers between the aligning walls subject to the action of the eccentric vanes.

  • Patent number: 6098458
Abstract: A movement skills assessment system without a confining field includes a wireless position tracker coupled to a personal computer and viewing monitor for the purpose of quantifying the ability of a player to move over sport specific distances and directions. The monitor displays a computer-generated virtual space which is a graphic representation of a defined physical space in which the player moves and the current position of the player. Interactive software displays a target destination distinct from the current position of the player. The player moves as rapidly as possible to the target destination. As the movement sequence is repeated, velocity vectors are measured for each movement leg, allowing a comparison of transit speeds in all directions as well as measurement of elapsed times or composite speeds. The system has applications in sports, commercial fitness and medical rehabilitation.
