  • Publication number: 20080121476
Abstract: A method of controlling the temperature of a brake arrangement for a machine is disclosed. The method includes providing a flow of pressurized fluid to the brake arrangement and sensing a first temperature of the fluid downstream of the brake arrangement. The method also includes determining a first temperature range for the brake arrangement and determining if the first sensed temperature falls in the first temperature range. The method also includes requesting an adjustment of at least one fluid parameter of the flow of pressurized fluid in response to determining that the first sensed temperature does not fall within the first temperature range such that the sensed temperature moves to the first temperature range.

  • Patent number: 7252464
Abstract: A hydraulic stop for use in drilling or countersinking operations comprises a rotatable body for rotating a tool about its axis. A cage adapted to contact the surface of a workpiece when the tool has penetrated into the workpiece by a predetermined distance actuates a trip mechanism comprising a plunger-operated hydraulic valve as the tool penetrates the workpiece more than the predetermined distance. The plunger is of adjustable length. When actuated the trip mechanism allows the body to shrink in length suddenly. The cage is axially adjustable in relation to the body to set the predetermined depth at which the trip mechanism actuates. A plurality of holes spaced around the circumference of the body to which the cage is mounted allow drainage of coolant whatever the axial position of the cage.

  • Patent number: 7215698
Abstract: In a first aspect the present invention provides a method of producing an ultra wide band signal in which a carrier signal is modulated by a spreading waveform which is a periodic deterministic wideband signal and the frequency of the carrier signal is changed by a predetermined amount at predetermined intervals (the reciprocal of this interval being the hopping rate), wherein there is a harmonic relationship between the carrier frequency, the predetermined amount of frequency change, and the period of the spreading waveform. In this way, an ultra wide band signal is created using both direct sequence and frequency hopping techniques and the signal so created may be detected using a coherent detector at a receiver. This provides a wide bandwidth signal, or even an ultra wide bandwidth (UWB) signal which mitigates the problems of multi-path signals (through coherent combining across a wide bandwidth) and also interference.

  • Publication number: 20070072703
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a tethered baseball in position for batting practice and automatically retrieving the ball after it has been hit with a bat, which includes an adjustable height stand, a fishing reel, and a variable speed motor connected thereto. Tethered by a small gauge fishing line which is attached to the reel, the ball, prior to its being hit, rests atop the adjustable strand. When the ball is hit, the line is released nearly effortlessly from the reel; and the ball is allowed to travel virtually unobstructed during its flight. When the ball has traveled its full distance, the batter, by pushing a switch with a foot pedal, starts the motor, causing the reel to rewind the line. A control on the switch allows the batter, to vary the speed of the motor from fast when the ball is at a distance to slow when the ball approaches the batter.

  • Patent number: 7167240
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for in-situ sampling and measuring particulate fineness in a process stream, comprising (a) sampling particles in-situ from a process stream, (b) adjusting the sample to conditions suitable for LII, (c) measuring the fineness using LII, and (d) correlating the LII fineness measurement with actual particle fineness. Also disclosed is a method for sampling and controlling a process based on the real-time, on-line, in-situ methods for sampling and measuring particles. Sampling can comprise drawing a sidestream from a source of the particles. Adjusting the sample to conditions suitable for LII can comprise diluting the sample or bringing the temperature of the sample to ambient conditions. Correlating may comprise using a correlation function determined by comparing LII measurements and laboratory fineness measurements for particle samples drawn at the same time.

  • Patent number: 7143814
Abstract: An arrangement to assist in heat transfer through a mold for applications such as injection molding of plastics material including at least one closed chamber within the mold, the chamber being only partially filled with liquid and a remainder of the chamber being filled with substantially only vapor of the liquid within the chamber, at least a portion of the chamber being positioned to transmit heat from a targeted location of the mold into liquid within the chamber, and condensing means adapted by reason of heat exchange to effect condensation of vapor within the chamber, the mold being arranged in that the liquid such as water is arranged to be held in the chamber in such a way that the liquid will be distributed to reach or be held at different heights within the chamber. This is achieved in one case by the addition of a foaming agent in the liquid. In another case by having a flock attached to the inner surface of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7109688
Abstract: A controller for a synchronous switching regulator is arranged to control a switch with a control signal, and to control a synchronous switch with a synchronous switch control signal. The controller disables the synchronous switch control signal at power-up so that the regulator operates with asynchronous rectification. Also, the controller is arranged to detect whether the regulator is in discontinuous or continuous conduction mode by determining whether a switch node voltage at the switch node a switch node stays negative. The regulator keeps operating with asynchronous rectification until the switch node voltage stays negative for the entire off period of the switch, which indicates the regulator is operating in continuous conduction mode. At this point, the controller enables assertion of the synchronous switch control signal, so that the regulator operates with synchronous rectification. The controller is arranged to enable the output voltage to rise monotonically when driving a prebiased load.
