Abstract: 3-Phenoxy-.alpha.-phenoxy-alkanecarboxylic acid derivatives of the formula ##STR1## Wherein Hal is a halogen atom, n is an integer from 1 to 3, R is an acid function and Z is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, are disclosed as possessing a surprising selective herbicidal activity. Methods are disclosed for combatting weeds in mono- and dicotyledonous cultures such as cereals, corn, rice, soya and cotton, which comprise applying to the locus to be protected from weeds a dosage of from 0.1 to 10.0 kilograms per hectare of the above compounds.

Abstract: The invention relates to novel 2-[4-(6-haloquinoxalinyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionates with herbicidal and plant growth regulating properties and having good selectivity in different crops of cultivated plants. The novel compounds have the general formula I ##STR1## wherein X is fluorine, chlorine or bromine, Z is oxygen or sulfur, A is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene bridge which is unsubstituted or substituted by methyl or ethyl, and R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.

Abstract: The novel .alpha.-phenoxy-propionic acid-.gamma.-butyrolactone esters and thioesters of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is oxygen or sulfur, andZ is the 4-trifluoromethylphenyl group or the 3,5-dichloropyridyl-2 group,have a herbidical action. They are particularly suitable for selectively controlling gramineous weeds in cultivated crops.

Abstract: This invention relates to new phenoxyphenylthioalkanecarboxylic acid derivatives with herbicidal and plant growth-regulating activity of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, B is a salt of a carboxylic-acid, an ester, a thioester, an amide or an imidoether thereof, X is hydrogen, halogen, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, D is hydrogen, halogen, cyano or trifluoromethyl, E is halogen, cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl and N is 0 or 1.

Abstract: New phenoxy-alkanecarboxylic acid derivatives which have a herbicidal action and which are effective in regulating plant growth are described. They correspond to the formula ##STR1## in which A is the cyano group, a carboxylic acid, a salt, ester, thioester or amide thereof,Q is a mono- to trisubstituted phenyl or pyrid-2-yl radical,R.sub.3 is hydrogen, halogen, cyano, nitro, alkyl or carbamoyl,R.sub.4 is alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl or benzyl, andX, Y and Z are each oxygen or sulfur.They can be used as selective herbicides in cereal and rice crops, or for reducing the vegetative growth, for example in soya-bean crops, and also for defoliation and desiccation in cotton or potato crops shortly before the harvesting thereof.

Abstract: Herbicidal .alpha.-(4-substituted) phenoxypropionylazoles of the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is the 4-trifluoromethylphenyl, 3,5-dichloropyrid-(2)-yl or 3-chloro-5-trifluoromethyl-pyrid-(2)-yl radical, and A is an azole radical which may or may not be substituted and is bonded through a ring nitrogen atom, such as pyrazole, imidazole, triazole or tetrazole, are useful for selectively controlling monocotyledonous weeds. Preferably, the cultivated plants are dicotyledonous, such as wheat, cotton, sugar beet, soybeans and vegetables.

Abstract: A class of herbicidal unsaturated esters of .alpha.-[4-(3',5'-dihalogeno-pyridyl-2'-oxy)-phenoxy]-propionic and -thiolpropionic acid of the formula ##STR1## wherein Hal is chlorine or bromine, X is oxygen or sulfur, and R is an unsubstituted or halogenated aliphatic or alicyclic radical which may contain nitrogen, and which possesses at least one double and/or triple bond, with the proviso that if X is oxygen, R is not an unsubstituted alkenyl radical. These new esters are useful for selective post-emergent control of grassy weeds in cultivated plants such as wheat, barley, rice and soybean.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel herbicidally active 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid alkoxyalkyl amides, processes for their manufacture and also herbicidal compositions which contain them. The preferred utility of the novel compounds is the selective control of monocotyledonous weeds.The novel compounds have the general formula I ##STR1## wherein "alkylene" represents a straight or branched saturated hydrocarbon chain of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R represents an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.The novel compounds are obtained by reacting a halide or lower alkyl ester of 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid with an alkoxyalkyl amineH.sub.2 N-alkylene-O-Ror by reacting a hydroxydiphenyl ether ##STR2## wherein Y is hydrogen or a cation, with an .alpha.-halopropionic acid alkoxyalkyl amide of the formula ##STR3## in the presence of an acid acceptor. Preferred compounds of the formula I are an N-(2-methoxy)-ethylamide and N-(3-methoxy)-propyl-(2)-amide.

Abstract: The present invention concerns new .alpha.-phenoxy-thiolpropionic acids and salts of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen a metal cation or the cation of an amino- or ammonio-group, Z is a substituted phenyl or a substituted pyrid-2-yl radical.These compounds have herbicidal activity by themselves but can be used as intermediats for the synthesis of more active derivatives.

Abstract: Novel herbicidally active phenoxy-alkyloxazolines, of the formula ##STR1## are disclosed, wherein A is hydrogen, halogen, cyano, nitro and amido or thiamido radical,B is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl,C is halogen, cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl, amido or thiamido,D is halogen, cyano or nitro,n is 0, 1 or 2,R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, independently are hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl andX is oxygen, sulfur, sulfinyl or sulfonyl.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel herbicidally active ester, namely the cyanomethyl ester of 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid of the formula ##STR1## It is a further object of the invention to provide a herbicidal composition which contains this novel ester as active component and also a post-emergence method of selectively controlling monocotyledonous weeds in crops of dicotyledonous plants. The invention furthermore provides a process for the manufacture of the novel ester by methods which are known per se by reaction of a corresponding trifluoromethyl-phenoxy-.alpha.-phenoxypropionic acid halide with hydroxyacetonitrile (cyanomethanol) or by reaction of 4-(p-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-phenol with a .alpha.-halopropionic acid cyanomethyl ester.

Abstract: Phenoxyalkyloxyzolines corresponding to the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or methylZ is a Phenyl-or Pyridyl-radical ##STR2## R.sub.1 is halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano or nitro R.sub.2 is hydrogen, halogen or cyanoR.sub.3 is halogen trifluoromethyl or cyano andn is 1 or 2.are effective herbicides which are tolerant towards cereal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel 3,4-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,5-dihydropyrrole compounds substituted on the nitrogen atom, to processes for producing them, to their use in agriculture for combating animal and plant pests and also for regulating plant growth, and to compositions containing these novel pyrrole compounds.The novel 3,4-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,5-dihydropyrrole compounds substituted on the nitrogen atom correspond to the formula ##STR1## wherein A represents the hydroxyl group, a halogen atom or an O-acyl radical, andR represents an aryl radical, an aralkyl radical, or an heteroaromatic radical which has 5-6 ring members and which is bound by way of a carbon atom.

Abstract: Pridyloxy-phenoxy-propionic acid-amino-alkyl esters having a herbicidal action, their production, compositions containing them, and the use thereof are described. The esters correspond to the formula ##STR1## in which X is halogen or trifluoromethyl,Y is hydrogen, halogen or trifluoromethyl,Z is oxygen or sulfur,"alkylene" is a straight-chain or branched-chain C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, andQ is an amino or ammonium group.
