Patent number: 4324362Abstract: A pocket atomizer that can be primed to hold liquid such as tear gas, in position for immediate discharge upon first application of its plunger. The atomizer includes a hollow piston having a hollow piston rod. The piston is movable up and down within a pump cylinder to force liquid up through the hollow piston rod. A check valve is located within the lower end of the hollow piston rod, and an orifice is located in the upper end of the hollow piston rod for discharging the pumped liquid. A capillary tube located within the hollow piston rod has an upper end coupled to the orifice for preventing liquid from draining therefrom between uses and thereby eliminates the necessity of priming the atomizer between uses. The lower end of the capillary tube terminates some distance above the check valve to define a chamber above the check valve. The check valve includes a valve seat and a ball of greater diameter than the capillary tube and of sufficient mass to seat in the valve seat when the piston is moved up.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1979Date of Patent: April 13, 1982Assignee: Pocket Supportable Atomizer Device TrustInventor: Benjamin H. Patent number: 4276695Abstract: An improved portable mechanical roller measure device for moving forwardly along a surface and thereby measuring a distance there along. The device comprises a housing which supports a rotatable wheel or roller. The rotation of the roller is transmitted through a simple symmetrical straight-toothed gear arrangement to a counter mechanism, which indicates the distance over which the device has traveled along the surface being measured. The roller measure device may be used in a hand-held fashion or may be connected to an elongated handle. The handle has an attachment section for detachably connecting to exterior attachment sections at either the rear or front of the housing so the device can either be pushed or pulled in its forward measuring direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1979Date of Patent: July 7, 1981Assignee: Ronco Teleproducts, Inc.Inventor: Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr.

Patent number: 4264216Abstract: A relatively low-power egg beating device for scrambling an egg within its shell. The device includes an improved smoothly curved axially offset needle which is rotated by a motor. The configuration of the needle permits effective beating at relatively low RPMs. The motor is normally off, and in addition, a brake limits rotation of the axially offset needle to facilitate the user grasping the egg shell and impaling it upon the needle. As the egg is fully impaled on the needle, the shell engages and moves a control member which automatically turns on the motor and releases the brake. As the user holds the shell, the needle rotates to beat the egg within the shell. When the user then begins to withdraw the egg shell from the needle, the shell disengages from the control member which automatically turns the motor off and reengages the brake. This permits ready removal of the egg from the stopped needle. Because of its low power requirements the device may be battery powered, fully self-contained and portable.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Ronco Teleproducts, Inc.Inventor: Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr.

Patent number: 4246666Abstract: A flush toilet which includes a concave bowl with a bottom drain port and a closure such as a pan or plate to close the drain port. When a pan is used, it can hold a quantity of water to form a gas seal. When a plate is used, a mechanical seal is employed. The closure is pivotable away from the drain port to permit the bowl to drain. Flushing means is provided which includes a nozzle directing a stream of flushing water tangentially into the bowl, air purging means to purge air from said water stream before a substantial amount of it discharges into the bowl, and a unique combined ball valve and vacuum breaker in the water supply system. The toilet also can include linkage which toggle-locks the closure in its closed position, a break-way lid, and when a mechanical seal is used, a gas-sealing overflow.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1978Date of Patent: January 27, 1981Inventor: Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr.

Patent number: 4173282Abstract: A spare lamp holder for use in a slide tray is disclosed. The holder includes a lamp support member and a cover member. The lamp support member is configured to support a spare projector lamp. A cover member is configured to secure the lamp in the lamp support member. The assembly of the lamp support member, the lamp, and the cover member is disposed in the central cavity of a circular slide tray and held in place by the locking ring member of the slide tray.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1978Date of Patent: November 6, 1979Assignee: AVSP, Inc.Inventors: Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr., Barry Fluster

Patent number: 4168842Abstract: A truck for a skateboard or roller skate, the truck being a unitary assembly having a structure for securing to a member for supporting a rider, the member being in the form of a skateboard or soleplate of a roller skate, the structure being generally rigid and downwardly depending from the undersurface of the rider supporting member with a lower edge lying in a plane diagonally disposed relative to the undersurface. The structure includes an axle receiving portion for receiving an axle therein with the axle being normally generally parallel to the rider supporting member and generally perpendicular to the longitudinal center line thereto. The axle receiving portion in one embodiment is connected to the lower edge.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1978Date of Patent: September 25, 1979Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Steve D. Kimmell, Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr., Brian Hills

Patent number: 4138127Abstract: A two wheel roller skate or the like having two wheels rotatably supported from a soleplate, one at the front and one at the rear thereof, the axes of rotation of the two wheels being normally parallel to each other. Each of the wheels is supported within a cradle for rotation about an axis extending generally in the direction of the longitudinal center line of the soleplate and at an angle thereto, the axis of pivoting of the cradle member being a steering axis disposed below the axis of rotation of the wheel member.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1977Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Steven D. Kimmell, Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr.

Patent number: 3939500Abstract: A water closet assembly adapted to be mounted on any one of a variety of bases for discharge of waste material into a drainage system, a holding tank, or the like, and which includes features for making optimum use of the flush water. The assembly includes a bowl and a pivotally mounted pan for closing the discharge outlet of the bowl and shaped so that it can provide a water seal when the pan is in its closed position. The pan can be tilted to an open position to discharge the contents of the bowl, and the actuator mechanism for tilting the bowl is operable to open a valve so that flush water will flow into the bowl in timed relation to movement of the pan. The bowl and pan are shaped to make most effective use of the flush water and to provide a desired water spot in the bowl, and an accumulation chamber is provided to measure a desired quantity of water for refilling the pan after a flushing operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1973Date of Patent: February 24, 1976Assignee: Thetford CorporationInventors: Marshall W. Miller, Christiaan J. H. Vanden Broek, Benjamin H. Stansbury, Jr., Thomas H. Jamison, Charles W. McHose, Paul T. Dubson

Patent number: 3931663Abstract: In a springless self-latching hinge having a pair of hinge members pivotally connected by a hinge pin, one hinge member is formed of resilient material configured releasably to maintain the hinge closed. This resilient hinge member includes a spaced pair of hinge pin receiving knuckles extending from a base portion which may be slightly bowed toward the pin. The other hinge member has a hinge knuckle terminating at a bearing sleeve a portion of which incompletely encircles the pin to define a recess. A boss projects from the central base portion of the resilient hinge member to engage the bearing sleeve recess when the hinge is closed. As the hinge is opened, the bearing sleeve depresses the boss to place the central region under compression. Thus the hinge is held releasably closed until sufficient opening effort is exerted to rotate the hinge and thereby compress the resilient member.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1974Date of Patent: January 13, 1976Assignee: Jaybee Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Frank A.
