The polymeric substrate is a random co- or terpolyer of ethylene propylene and a third monomer onto which an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid anhydride has been grafted. The polymer is imidized with aminoheterocyclics and hydroxylalkylated using an aldehyde or ketone an alkylation; than alkylated using mercaptoheterocyclics.

    Abstract: A railway diesel crankcase lubricant composition comprising a major portion of a diesel lubricating oil and a minor amount of, as an oxidation and corrosion inhibiting additive, a condensate product prepared by the process comprising:(a) reacting a dibasic acid anhydride with an oligomeric isobutylene to form a succinic anhydride;(b) reacting the succinic anhydride with an N-alkyl alkylene diamine to produce a succinimide-amine;(c) reacting the succinimide-amine with a polyaromatic diisocyanate to produce a phenylurea isocyanophenylmethane;(d) reacting the isocyanophenylmethane with a heterocyclic compound containing a thiadiazole nucleus to a condensation product of a mercaptothiadiazole-phenylmethane; and(e) recovering the condensation product.

    Abstract: A polymeric additive prepared from ethylene and at least one (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and a non-conjugated dienes or triene comprising from about 15 to 80 mole percent of ethylene and from about 20 to 85 mole percent of the (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and from about 0 to 15 mole percent of the diene or triene. This polymeric substrate has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 5,000 to about 500,000. It is modified by reacting the polymer with an unsaturated epoxide wherein the intermediate graft co- or terpolymer is characterized as having pendant epoxides within the substrate.Post-reacting this graft co- or terpolymer with 1,3,4-thiadiazine modified with substituted phenols, diaryl amines, or phenophiazines generates a polymeric lubricant additive with enhanced anti-oxidant, dispersant, and anti-wear properties.

    Abstract: A polymeric lubricating oil additive containing pendant perfluoroaliphatic urethane units that behaves as a VI Improver and a fuel economy enhancer when added to lubricating oil compositions. The polymeric substrate may be a copolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene and propylene or a terpolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene, propylene, and 20-80 mole % of a non-conjugated diene or triene (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha olefin. The copolymer or terpolymer substrate has a molecular weight range of about 5,000 to about 500,000. A graft copolymer or terpolymer containing pendant isocyanate groups is prepared by reacting the ethylene propylene co- or terpolymer with an acrylating agent. Post-reacting the copolymer or terpolymer containing the pendant isocyanate group with a perfluoroaliphatic alcohol generates the additive.
