Abstract: The invention relates to applicators for applying a solution or other composition (e.g., an antiseptic composition) to skin of a patient. The applicator may include a container body having a proximal end, a distal end, and a frangible member disposed at the distal end of the body. The applicator includes a first position where the container body and frangible member are a unitary piece (e.g., blow molded as a single piece), and a second position when the frangible member is rotated relative to the body to irreversibly break a weak point therebetween, releasing the composition in the hollow body through an opening. A porous applicator head may be positioned adjacent the distal end of the body and frangible member, so that the composition flows out the body, through the opening, and onto the head. The applicator may be formed in a blow-fill-seal process for improved sterility and ease of manufacture.

Abstract: A filter status module for use with a container based filtration device includes a dispensing sensor and a user interface communicatively coupled to a processing unit. The processing unit counts a number of dispensing events, duration and/or angle of tilt signaled by the dispensing sensor and outputs a filter status on the user interface as a function of the number of dispensing events, duration and/or angle of tilt. The processing unit may further track an elapsed period of time from insertion of a new filter and output the filter status as a further function of the elapsed period of time.

Abstract: A mechanism for establishing a plurality of sessions between a client and a first server based on a single input of user authenticating information is disclosed. A request to establish a connection between the client and the first server is received. The request includes identification information for authenticating a requesting user. Based on the identification information, a determination is made as to whether the connection between the client and the first server should be established. If it is determined that the connection between the client and the first server should be established, the identification information is cached in memory and the connection between the client and the first server is allowed to be established. Subsequent connection requests from the same client are authenticated, and further connections can be established, based on the cached identification information, without further input from the client or user.
