Publication number: 20240351701Abstract: A hybrid emergency power unit for an aircraft comprises a controller, a generator-motor coupled to the controller, a hydraulic pump coupled to the generator-motor, a battery pack coupled to the controller, and a turbine coupled to the generator-motor. During a bleed air mode, the turbine and the generator-motor supply electricity to the controller, which is configured to rectify an output of the generator-motor for consumption by one or more electrical systems on the aircraft. During an augment mode, when bleed air provides insufficient power, the controller is configured to draw at least some power from the battery pack and convert the output of the generator-motor for consumption by the one or more electrical systems. During an emergency mode, the controller is configured to draw electricity from the battery pack and provide power to drive the generator-motor, which in turn drives the hydraulic pump and provides electrical power to aircraft systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2023Publication date: October 24, 2024Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventor: Benjamin Tang

Patent number: 10488100Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for load control for cooling systems are provided. Coolant flows through a plurality of cooling units in a cooling system. The coolant flow is halted for each cooling unit that is undergoing a defrost cycle. Each cooling unit is configured to start a first defrost cycle at a random time within a predetermined time range after the cooling unit is started or powered on. After the first random start defrost cycle, a regular periodic defrost cycle may be maintained. Thus, the cooling units may be powered on simultaneously while still providing desynchronized defrost cycles, enabling the cooling system to maintain adequate coolant flow and heat load to avoid deleterious stop and restart cycles.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2016Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Benjamin Tang, Randy Brunter, Peter Zheng
