Abstract: A method of exploiting hydrocarbons within a sedimentary basin is disclosed using a stratigraphic simulation coupled with a hydrologic model and a terrestrial organic matter accumulation model. The inorganic sediment distribution within the basin is determined by use of a stratigraphic simulator for at least one time step. Then, at least one unsaturated zone is delimited within the basin using a hydrologic model. At least one zone of terrestrial organic matter accumulation within the basin and an amount of terrestrial organic matter accumulated in this accumulation zone are determined by use of a model of the terrestrial organic matter accumulation as a function of the unsaturated zone thickness, of the unsaturated zone thickness stability and of the surface water flux defined for the time step considered. Application is petroleum reservoir exploration and exploitation.

A gridded representation of the basin, comprising at least a mineralogical composition and a porosity within each cell, is determined by means of a stratigraphic simulator for at least one time step. Then, at least one hydrologic zone is delimited using a hydrologic model, and at least one chemical composition of the fluids and a direction of circulation of the fluids are determined in each cell located in the zone.

Abstract: The invention is a method of developing a sedimentary basin wherein the distribution and the quality of the organic matter in the sedimentary basin are determined using stratigraphic modelling representing the evolution of the sedimentary basin. The method is based on the coupling of a stratigraphic model with an organic matter production, transport and degradation model. The sedimentary basin is then developed according to the distribution and the quality of the organic matter.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for exploitation of a sedimentary basin. Exploitation of the sedimentary basin is permitted by the choice of zones of interest within the basin, the zones being determined by means of maps of total organic carbon TOC and of hydrogen index HI of at least one sedimentary layer. According to the invention, the maps of total organic carbon TOC and of hydrogen index HI are obtained taking into account the current values of TOCA(W) and HIA(W) at the level of the well and taking into account the maps of bathymetry BM and of sedimentation rate SM.
