  • Patent number: 5859362
Abstract: A method and device for the detection of vapors of cocaine and associated compounds are disclosed. The method involves sampling a volume of air suspected of containing cocaine vapors, passing this air through a filtration system that removes any particulate matter and binds vapors of cocaine and associated compounds, if present, for further analysis. A preferred associated compound-vapor is that of ecgonidine methyl ester (EDME), and a marker for the presence of cocaine. The device is comprised of a sampling, filtration and vacuum port components and can be easily attached to a container, and suction source, for the sampling of air.

  • Patent number: 5744698
Abstract: An accelerometric sensor for measuring pinking in an internal combustion engine. The sensor includes a base in the form of a sleeve with a flange extending therefrom and supporting at least one stacked piezoelectric ring, connecting disks and a seismic weight. The underside of the base is used as a contact surface between the sensor and the part to be measured. The underside has a central recess such that the average load distribution diameter over the contract surface is no smaller than the average of the shoulder. This shape may be achieved with a recess which is coaxial with the sleeve and which has a diameter greater than the external diameter thereof. The shape may alternatively be achieved by forming the underside in a concave shape.

  • Patent number: 5347916
Abstract: A device for assisting extraction of a material contained in a cartridge for preparation of a beverage has a wall which forms a hollowed enclosure which has an interior surface which defines a frustoconically shaped cavity for containing the cartridge. A rim intersects and extends laterally from the interior surface of the wall to form a peripheral rim base surface which intersects the wall for supporting a cartridge contained by the interior wall surface. A plurality of fins integral with the rim extend from the rim laterally, with respect to the interior wall surface, to converge and connect at an area which is centrally disposed, with respect to the interior wall surface and rim, and displaced at a distance away from a plane defined by the intersection of the interior wall and rim base surfaces so that the area of convergence is displaced away from a cartridge contained and supported by the wall and rim base surfaces.
